Did I? So you're telling me Gunnarson, a 1st in 2012 or 2013, Colborne couldn't go a long way to acquiring Carter? Moreover, you're discounting the stuff we'd get back for all the aforementioned....Could MacArthur not land at least a 2nd and 3rd, or based on the Versteeg example or the Moore example, could he not land more? And why can't those assets be turned around and then moved in a bigger deal for Carter? I mean it cost Tampa Downie to get Quincey who they then moved for a 1st (albeit a late one).
- mykokes

no i dont.

carter could fetch better then that imo.

and i really dont want to move gunnarsson. out of all the defensemen, him and gardiner should be kept.. gunnar is that unsung hero back there that makes a world of difference.

and burke could easily dump guys off for picks.. but what will connolly fetch, not much, same with army and lombardi (inflated salaries, piss poor production).. komi? who would take him before seeing what the new CBA looks like?

teams like columbus want top end youth.. not middle road prospects and depth albeit effective defensemen

bingo.

Again, is that what I said my plan was? The only definitive piece I indicated was Carter, there was no mention of these fantasy 1st round picks we'd be acquiring for all the aforementioned.

Couldn't agree more....unless your a top 5 team, our list of untouchables shouldn't be longer than 5 or so names.

Toronto is foolish if they don't make a move for Carter. Sorry, but Connolly and Bozak will never be it.

I'd trade Coulbourne, Connolly, Prospect and 1st for him in a heartbeat. #1 centres don't grow on trees. Burke needs to eat his words and get him, he might be the difference of making it or not.

Also, you need as goalie bad. Bernier would be huge.

Reimer, Grabo, Prospect 2nd rounder and 5th rounder to LA.

To me it seems like Gus is getting better and Bernier is getting worse... Why are we shipping out so much for the guy?

This market is so tough to play in it's insane. We've run every goalie outta town since Cujo and Eagle (both hof worthy). I ain't givin up on Reims. He's very young, and needs to go through what every other proven starter has gone through.

should not be trading ANY dmen that play Left side. Period.

Hell they've moved Blacker to Left side just cause they have too many Righties with Marlies too, and it screwed his game for the first 20 or so.

speaking of which, no trading Blacker either

young....low cap hit...number one centre....can't imagine what the Leafs would need him for.
- Barx

1st line center is a stretch. He's a 2nd line scoring center who in the right situation can beat 60 points. He's had one excellent season, outside of that, he's a slightly more offensive Grabovski(though, who knows how much of that is from playing in Philly) without the drive.

And he costs what Grabo would want. But to pay Grabo that would be a massive overapayment... so we should get Carter signed to a retirement deal and give up assets with him instead.

that being said, having both wouldn't be a terrible idea, but we'd need to move Connolly out first.

Thanks for coming out...

Nowhere did i say that we don't need a #1 center. But you have to consider how that player will fit onto your team. If this was NHL 12 then i wouldn't argue but there are serious risks involved with Carter. Any long-term injury would (frank) us over, 10-years is A LOT of time and so far not too many contracts of that length have worked out...., Carter has been known to party like mad and that has caused problems on his other teams.

Don't get me wrong, i think he is a hell of a player and i am all for giving the guy a chance. He is older and may have matured....the issue i have is us trading away major assets for a guy on an albatross contract. In the off-season we can try to sign Parise, trade for several other #1 centers, etc.

Obviously if the rumors of Schenn + 2nd for Carter are true, then you have to rethink the deal...but why the hell would Columbus be looking to dump a guy they just traded for last summer for Schenn + 2nd....AND the leafs get Johansen in return? That deal smells bad

So Gunnarson is a depth d-man? Colborne and Percy are middle of the road prospects? a pick in the 13-20 range is not worth anything anymore?
Everything you guys are saying about Komi, we used to say about Hal Gill too when he was here, yet somehow Old Man Fletcher moved him for a 2nd round pick.

how is Carter a good fit guys? He can't play with Kessel, they are both shoot-first kind of players!

Last year Kessel & Carter where 3rd & 4th in SOG for all of NHL!
The year before, they where 3rd & 7th in SOG for all of NHL and probably would have ended up 1st & 2nd if they didnt miss 10-12 games each.

You cant have two guys who each shoot 300+ SOG per year skating together, so that means one of them has to play the 2nd line. Carter as our #2 center does nothing for us, since we have several capable #2's in the mix. Kessel on the 2nd line means we would have to move Lupul down also? or reshuffle every line?

Not to mention that 10-year monster contract that we have to eat....I see no reason to deal assets for Carter since it would require us to blow up half our team to accommodate him fitting in and then have to pray for the next 8-10 years that he doesnt get injured and become a DiPietro of the Leafs.

No thanks...

- Ruski

My honest take on the carter contract is he left about 1mill on the table to remain in Philadelphia long term. He obviously had no intention on winding up in Columbus, and i think he really wants out. Hince the sub par play.
Taking a look at the player he's huge, though not overly physical, and has scored 40, even the coveted kessel hasn't done that yet! Also there is no rule the says we need Kessel and carter on the same line, he may click better with a play making winger (kadri). Basically If he can be got we need to give it a go, Big 40 goal scoring centers will hardly ever be so available.
TO Bluejackets: Lombardi, Schenn, the monster, grabo(if willing to extend)+2nd round draft pick.

TO Toronto: Carter

You forgot to mention the guy going the deal for Bernier has put up better numbers the last two seasons and is the same age.

Interesting... Not sure how they can package both of those guys together with Grab being UFA.. Columbus wouldn't be interested.. only a team being in a playoff position would be... well unless it involves seperate deals?!

OMG OMG You are soo on something.

What we need is a goaltender. Its pretty obvious a #1 Center has to be put on the back burner right now to get the goalie situation figured out because Reimer and Gustavsson are not getting this team to the playoffs.

And for those people talking about the defense having a hard time clearing the puck from the zone last night. Where have you been for the rest of the season? Its been a problem in every freaking game this year. Schenn and Gardiner are the worst at it and Phaenuf is a close 3rd.

Only 2 Defenseman that almost consistently clear the end are Gunnar and Liles and Komi before he started to sit.
