It was possible prior to Kubina, it's not possible now. That $3 million prorated = $3 million of Nash's 7.8 mill pro-rated.

So yes, once the Kubina deal happened, it put the Flyers out of the running for Nash... unless they are willing to move 7.8 mill worth of full season contracts to match Nash's full season contract (because they are all prorated)

also the Rangers were getting him by moving Dubinsky????
Lundqvist, Gaborik, Richards & Nash $30 million on 4 players, but they were the front runner???

There's no way the Rangers were gonna get Nash by trading just dubinsky...

It's over dude. Nash is not coming to Philly and neither is any other high profile player of the likes. It's not possible.

Both make too much money... Any trade the Flyers make at this point has to pretty much be an NBA type deal in which the salary cap leaving has to match the salary cap coming to the team...

They aren' going to trade any defense to improve their offense and trading picks to get these players would put them well over the cap. Who on offense are you gonna swap (with same cap) for those players?

My guess is they add a veteran 4th line guy who kills penalties to replace Rinaldo and that will be all they do.

They are pinned in a corner right now with the cap.

They have room to take a full season cap hit of around $1mm. In any trade they make they will have to shed a contract, so it's possible that that contract will come off the roster and free cap. They can also waive Shelley and clear $1.1mm(again, full season hit). Or if they get a capable 4th liner, they could send Couturier to the Q and free his cap space.

So there are options, if they need to take them.

From what I remember, Couturier can not be send back down to the Q. Once he stayed past a certain point of the season he was here to stay.

1.1m from Shelley and 1.0 worth of season contract cap space puts you at 2.1 million, both players suggested make well over that.

Couturier can be sent to the Q at any time, but after 9 games, his contract can't be slid and he accrues a year of service towards UFA status.

No, he isn't, but it is an option. There are ways to juggle some room in here or there.
