LA in trouble 3-0... Lombardi is scrambling

I think he's held on to that Bernier "trump card" too long, especially when your struggling & can't score

Giroux's had a few of those "no man's land" moments. He does make up for it in large part because of his production on offense, but he's been a very responsible defensive player in the past, and can certainly get back to that.

He's on his way to 90 points, plus he kills penalties, what more can you ask?

If the kid had Malkins frame, just imagine how much more lethal he could be

The problem with the teams with the "sexy" young back-up goalies is, that most teams won't trade a premium price to land one or will only trade one as part of a package to land to star player.

I'd just like to see better attention to detail in his own end. I can live with the occasional breakdown, because he's a very capable defensive player.

That's what I mean though. Giroux blew a coverage in the Sabres game, on the first goal. Immediately on twitter, at least two of the beat writers blamed the defensemen. Neither defenseman had blown coverage, and in fact had their men tightly marked.

Giroux was standing in the low slot, a good 8 feet from his guy.

Yet, for the "most" part, the consensus in here was that it was Giroux. I think that is why I hang in here so much during games.

In short, he's getting the "golden haired boy" treatment. Not without reason, but let's be fair if we must divide blame.

Toronto. Chicago, perhaps, although Crawford's really been good the last few games. Tampa Bay, although they look like flat out sellers now.

Yes.
We all can, he's carried us on his back enough to warrant such, and Briere has a fire under him now, (may be from Jagr), which I like, as that can get him going

That's all I'm saying. It's possible to criticize a guy for a bad play, but recognize that he's the best player on the team and his other attributes make the sin less damning.

If I think a guy isn't playing up to par, I will criticize him. Conversely, I will readily admit good play, even for a guy I don't particularly care for, like Shelley or Fantasy Camp

Exactly. It won;t make me ignore his failings, but I do recognize where this team would be if it wasn't for the little ginger.

I would like to see the defense changed up a little. I think a night or two off for Meszaros would help him, a little wake up call. I would like to see Kimmo and Kubina together some too. I know Coburn seems lost without Timonen, but I would try him and Carle together. I really liked our young guys when they don't have to play huge minutes and would like to see Marc-Andre Bourdon get some more playing time.

I like how the forward lines are set up and I agree that the Pk needs tweaked. We have many options that haven't been tried in my opinion.

My oldest son (13) has been yelling about the Flyers since the All Star break and I keep telling him, "what did you think the Flyers would be like before the season started?" "Now add all the injuries to that mix" and "Wait until March, when it is grind time, to make an opinion about this team". I have liked the make up of this team for the most part of the season, they have heart and play well. i am just waiting for the "gel" factor and the push for the playoffs to take them to another level.

If I'm the Flyers, the only goalie move I consider is getting a solid, veteran NHL backup....and even then, only if I get a premium for Bob.

And Schenn had some awesome back checks last night, breaking up plays on the rush & finishing up his checks

Schenn is showing some nice flashes. He has games where he struggles, but the kid's a Helluva player. Known as more of a playmaker as a prospect, but he's not afraid to shoot, either.

Thus far, they have done pretty much what I expected-added defensive depth at the lowest cost possible. I think that the next piece should be to add a guy who can do what Betts did-PK, win faceoffs, shore up the defense on the 3rd/4th lines.

I don't see getting a premium for Bob.

That said, It's hard to be surprised by the Flyers.
