Downie is a young and proven NHLer and that 30th pick is no-guaranty.
Fair trade for every team involved IMO.

downies a good pickup with quincey gone now we can play elliott. this trade makes us better now and in the future.

1st rounders are way over rated. Also Downie was a 1st rounder. But its better to get a player that can still help us with a playoff push and is still young. The trade made the avs better and it didnt make them buyers or sellers

No offense guy, but besides paying overpaying for Varly, try and find one trade that sherman has made that is bad.

Seriously the only people that think Sherman is a bad GM are avs Bandwagon fans. Sherman has done a DAMN good job. People need to stop freaking out.

Also if the avs trade stastny for a top 6 player it will more than likely be at the draft when his contract isn't such a big deal, because then they wont have to overpay like they will at the trade deadline. Also trading stastny at this point would more than likely hurt our playoff chances. You never really know though

This trade is ridiculous. Sherman got hosed again. One of our better defenders for a third line forward. There is nothing good about this since Tampa was able to flip Quincey to DET for a first rounder and a prospect. Thats a high price and we look stupid for only getting Downie. Someone who has an ok scoring history and suspension issues. Terrible again Sherman.

That's my thought, we have far too many 3rd line wingers and only a couple who should be in the top six, Mueller (injury prone), and Landeskog. Hejduk is more than likely done after this year. We'll need to do something in the off-season...Oh wait we won't do poop.

If Detroit wants someone back then its a good estimate they're a good player.

Quincy is a good player, but the avs had too many Dman. I mean hell Grossman got a 2nd and 3rd rounder and he is a 5-6 guy. So a low low 1st wasnt that much for him. Also there are rumors of Brad Stuart not wanting to resign with detroit and who knows what lidstrom is going to do. Datsuk also is out 2 weeks so Det could use the trade.

It does suck that quincy is a wing now though.

I think the problem isn't so much that the avs fans are overvalueing quincy (which they are just a smidge) but that they dont know anything about downie. Let me say this, he plays like Brad MArchand

We werent going to get downie for any of our other Dmen. Quincy for downie was a very even trade. O'bryne could prolly fetch a 3rd. I'd rather not trade O'brien as he is a great leader. Hejda isnt going anywhere cuz the avs just signed him and he is a little over paid. Who knows what wilson would have gotten but we will still be able to sign him for cheap and we have 3 NHL calibur defensive prospects coming up in the next few years.

Also quincy would have asked for a decent raise and was never really in the avs future plans.
