Toronto needs to either wait for a legit #1 to become available and trade for him, or wait for one to become a UFA and sign him, or get lucky and have someone in the system turn out well. Trading for a backup and hoping he turns into a starter is way too risky unless you're giving up next to nothing.

Bernier would cost a lot and is no more of a #1 then Ben Bishop or Josh Harding who are both UFA's

But if you haven't been a number 1 in the NHL yet in Bishop or Harding's case... you probably aren't going to be.

Absolutely. But from Toronto's perspective, it's an absolute steal. If Lupul ever came up in a conversation about Carter, Nash, Staal, Parise, whoever, the papers would be signed half a second after the phone was hung up.

He's an elite regular season goaltender. He's average in the playoffs. That'd be a HUGE improvement over what Toronto has.

1)You are on the Leafs thread... you should expect some unpleasantness.

2) It sure looks like Parise is going to move on, and Brodeur will be gone soon.
