stars dont win you championships
there is no miracle solution... this is why leaf land is in a state of perpetual negativity... fan base is so busy looking for a saviour
really... what difference would nash make? or getzlaf? or any other star?
very little in the overall scheme of things... they would come here under an umbrella of hype, and ultimately dissapoint since there is no humanly possible way they could live up to fan expectation. - Dozzer
and stars do win championships. do you remember Tim Thomas? |

i have seen far worse days in leafland than these
the team is young, and is mainly inconsistant.. i remember the same results with a 30+ team with nothing in the system
that being said, i am hoping burke doesnt make the same mistake of all former leaf GMs and start selling off youth for immediate star power help.. cause lets face it, a single top tier forward isnt taking this team any further than its going to go... a small deal for a character guy would be the best move imo...
i think the leafs should go into sell mode and get whatever they can for under performing vets and ride the youth ther rest of the way - Dozzer
I agree, we have an actual farm system in place and it seems like guys want to be here now because things are being done in a semi-sane way for a change.
The packages being floated for Nash are bonkers for any team, but especially for a developing club like the Leafs. Sure, if I had a contending team whose window was closing, I might go all-in for Nash and accept the hangover if it didn't work. That's kind of what the Leafs did during the Sundin/Quinn years, and I think that was justified because they were legit contenders.
But now, I'm reading an impact roster player, two high value prospects and a pick, maybe a first, for Nash? If two firsts and a second for a very young Kessel was supposedly the worst transaction in all of human history, isn't this kind of package for a 28 year old Nash who eats up 8 mil in cap space equally bad if not worse?
I think Burke realizes this is not the point at which to blow our brains out over one guy, all it'll do is make us the Toronto Blue Jackets.
Oh yeah, GO LEAFS GO

and if we have them... 9th.. since we would have to give up a ridiculous amount of depth to get there
look at boston... PC didnt take over til a few monts after the thorton trade.. look how long it took him to build his championship team... it takes time.. there is no fast way to do it
this isnt MLB, you cant just go out and buy a championship, however, with fehr at the helm of the nhlpa negotiation table, that may change this summer |

You might be right on your points, but I put that face because you simply can't know what you're claiming and then to go down the line and say "we're f*cked".
- Grabbo's agent is asking 5.5m. No one knows the term, and we can all assume that agents always ask for more then what they might settle for. Contract negotiations 101.
- Mac is putting up good numbers for his cap hit. Not much worry there.
- Kulemin is on a down year, looking into a new contract. That's a bonus for me since I see a much better player there and we might get him cheap.
- Wilson is on a one year deal, might move up into upper management. Maybe not. However, you can't say they aren't not playing for him right now, potentially in a slump, worried about trade rumours, etc. Again a short term commitment to a problem you think will screw us?
So the problem is what? That Grabbo goes and we're stuck with no centers? Bozak, Connolly, Colborne and maybe even Kadri can potentially play in the top 6.
I don't get what you're overracting about. - Holy_GM
If things stay as they are, then yes, we are (frank)ed.
This team ("team" being the combination of players and coaching) will barely make the playoffs, if at all, then flame out in the first round when things get tough. We all know how to neutralize Toronto's system.
Relying on Colborne and Kadri to ride in and save the day seems like a recipe for disaster. We won't get the results we want and we'll crucify our youth for failing to be the messiahs we need.
I've always been willing to see the glass as half full, especially with a great GM like Burke around. But how many more miracles can he pull off to improve this team with trades?
I think it's going to be a very uneventful trade deadline in TO this year.
The most immediate impact he could make would be to replace our .500 coach with someone better. And every day, Burke seems be forced more and more to make that move. Quite frankly, what options does he have left? |

I'll believe the Rangers are in on this when I see Nash put on the sweater... Does Columbus really want a low 1st round pick? What roster player will the Rangers part with that won't affect the chemistry of a first place team? Doesn't make sense.
On to Grabovski... I can't hate on the guy yet who knows if this is a bs story, or totally driven by his agent, one thing we can abso(frank)inlutely guarantee he is good as gone at that price. Rather give up a couple assets and have Carter. |

yup, even with nash the leafs are 5 years away at best (unless something ridiculous happens) so getting a guy like nash would actually put us back imo
there is cheaper help if all you are after is a playoff berth |

his age didn't mean a thing. he played stellar when he had too. thats what stars do, and we don't have any. and there are none in the pipelines. if it's Gardiner 2 prospects and a pick how is that going to hurt us? |

because when the guy we trade for is 32 and slowing down production wise... gardiner will be in his prime and quite possibly at a level of guys like coffey, leetch, etc.
then all us leafs fans will moan about how the future was sold off for quick fixes.
i've seen it a dozen times with this team's fan base
for once i just want to say (frank) competing for the playoffs all the time and just ride it out and see what prospects turn out.
for instance.. our supposedly star starved team has two of the top 10 scorers in the nhl. the leafs are 7th in scoring i believe.. its keeping goals out that is the problem, and goals are kept out with defense goaltending and character.. not top tier offensive skills |

Nash is 27,Carter is 27, Stastny is 26. all young and all better than Gardiner.
and Lupul and Kessel have these points from a run and gun offense that isn't working.
what are they going to get when a real coach takes over?
you can't believe either of them are stars. good hockey players, yes
Kessel might have shot but not without a star center |
