It's a possibility. It's also possible that you're right and I'm wrong, or vise versa.
- EKolb13

Of course.

A lot of people on here want to think it's their way or Bowman is an idiot.

Then again, that is most fans in most sports.

There is a reason we have the jobs we do

Ughhh!!!

So the two players I wanted the Hawks to get wind up getting dealt for each other. Then Quincy winds up a Red Wing. Oh My god am I pissed...

I remember when Campbell was traded and everybody on this board ( And elsewhere thanks to Hawks P.R. toadie Eddie O...)was dancing around jumping for joy at all their newfound salary cap space and all the the options they'll have come deadline day. I pointed out then that the Red Wings had just as much cap space, just as many prospects and have a much more saavy GM. And so when the best D available is out there, who gets him? Ken Holland.

Stan couldn't pony up next years 1st? A first that would be a better pick than the Red Wings 1st. Couldn't do that? And now,not only do you miss out on what might be the best D man available but you let him go to your main competition in the west? Un -bleeping-forgivable.!!!!!!

But we got Fornataro. Dat's a spicy Meatball!!!!!!!

Yep, about sums up how I feel right now, too. Good thing I'm a Packer fan, because I wouldn't be able to handle this on top of being a Bear fan and Sox/Cubs fan....

I'm sorry...but a whole lot of assumptions here. I've personally thought that every single deal so far (haven't had time to fully examine this one yet) has been over priced and I'm happy the Blackhawks didn't match on most of them. If true, was Grossman worth Saad...I don't think so. Was Gill worth the draft pick he got back...I don't think so. Same goes for Kubina.

Really can't figure or make any comments until next week.

- HawkFan27

Absolutely worth it, as long as Grossman is re-signed.

I'm sure the Yzerman/Holland realationship had something to do with Quincey. Maybe the price for Detroit to deal directly with Colorado was higher, and maybe Holland got Yzerman to play intermeadiary?
- EKolb13

Or maybe Holland likes to win Stanley Cups, and not have commercials saying they do...

the first step toward recovery for the hawks is the admission that they have a problem and the problem is stan bowman aka golden dummy

A whole lot easier said than done...so that is pretty hard to use as an argument. I certainly wouldn't count on it.

You get a player like Grossman, more times than not he is going to be a rental and just be here for a few months.

Is it just me, or is Fornataro not on an NHL contract, whereas Segal is. Perhaps this trade was to open up a space on the 50 man contract max, leaving the Hawks at 47.

Just a thought but would the Hawks have interest in Gagner, Peckham and Khabibulin out of Edmonton?

I think that it could happen for McNeil and a 1st....

I know there is reluctance to take Khabibulin, especially with his injury this week - but he still has game - look at what he was doing for the first 25 games this year.

Perhaps Gagner could get Kane going....they sure looked good together before. Put Gagner with some talented linemates....interesting potential.

The first I heard Kyle Quincy's name mentioned as an option was this morning.
- mvp0207

It was probably only mentioned this morning, because up until now, nobody knew the that the Avs were going to make him available. I think a lot of the Bowman apologists are missing the point here. It's not so much that Quincy is a great player, although he is pretty solid, it's that the Hawks rivals in the Western Conference are doing what they need to do to better their teams NOW. They are not waiting until the trade deadline. Their is nothing magical about that day. They are identifying the guys they want and doing what they need to do to get them regardless of the timing. Do you think Detroit gave up a #1 pick for Quincy for nothing? Based on Ken Holland's track record, I'll assume they know this guy gives them some skills they need and that he will help them now and come playoff time. I'd like to know why some people think there is going to be a ton of deals come deadline day? Do you know that for a fact? What are you basing that on? Remember last year? If I recall, there were very few deals on deadline day and definitely nothing that could be considered a big trade or a real shocker. I won't bury Bowman today, but I'm not feeling too confident in him right now. If he is unable to pull off any deals and this team loses in the first round or worse, misses the playoffs, then he deserves all the heat that will come his way. Telling the fan base that trading Campbell puts them in position to add whatever is needed at the trade deadline and then doing nothing or doing something that isn't going to help you (Morrison) is not except-able. This reminds me of when Bowman said he wasn't worried about any offer sheets last year for his players and then the Sharks made him eat those words. I think Bowman miscalculated how many teams would still be in the playoffs at this time and how much competition he'd have in making deals.

No, I just want to have a GM who is proactive, not one wussyfooting around, making excuses why he can't make a deal.

Missing out on Kubina was disappointing. I'll agree about that. But, come on. Kyle Quincey?! Was he the defenseman everyone was pining over!? I wonder how many people have actually seen him play? Not saying he's bad. But he's not a top 4. He's similar to Steve Montador in my opinion. A 1st rd pick is not worth someone who would be a #5 (at best) defenseman on this team.

And if, in fact, this is what StanB(l)o(w) thought, he was very wrong.

SteveRain, I feel bad for you -- I forsee you banging your head against the wall a few times as you wait for your playoff ticket money to be refunded to you timely.

Who is saying he isn't?

People should just wait until Monday until they start beheading the guy. If he makes a great move everyone that is ripping on him today is just going to be hopping on his Richard the next day. Doesn't make sense...just give him until Monday and then feel free to go off.

Why? If it were someone long in the tooth like Kubina or Gill I would agree. Grossman is 27...the middle of his prime. That's the whole reason I wanted him. Unlike a lot of other guys talked about here recently, he could have been a long term answer.

That is the only one I know of.

Its good for referencing basic info about players.

Theres a ton of web-sites that are better in terms of scouting related info.

I dont really use sites like that a ton anymore, honestly. I watch a lot of Junior hockey myself. If I ever have a question, I message Brian Huddle. He's the prospect writer here.

Very, very nice guy. Really quick to respond to a question and very friendly.

Hawks have no interest in Gagner who is undersized, we have enough of that on our team. Peckham i'd have to take a further look at, and Khabi is hurt and or coming off an injury...Hawks aren't trading for ppl that are DTD/IR unless your name is Ruutu. Goaltending isn't our problem, it was defense and people knowing and doing their job! Thanks for the idea though.

It depends on who's acquiring the player.

The Flyers, for example, need a guy like Grossman long term. He brings immediate and long-term help to our blue-line. Homer has every intention of resigning him.

Depending on what happens with Matt Carle, Kubina could be back to.

Doesn't mean a thing until the ink hits the paper.

Cannot assume that you are going to sign a player like that...you'll get burned pretty fast that way.

So there has been what, 3 trades so far?

24 wussyfoot GM's in the NHL?

Does that matter when 2 of the non-wussyfoot GMs are in your conference/division?

I think they have a pretty good idea before they make the deal. People talk, GM's talk, agents talk. No good GM gives up assets without having a decent idea how the scenario is going to play out.

Which once again means nothing until the ink hits the paper.

I can think of so many "rental" players that the teams tried to sign and they went elsewhere. It happens every single year. I wouldn't give up a prospect like Saad for Grossman for the hopes that the Hawks could re-sign Grossman at the end of this year. Just not smart.

Making a deal as a reaction to someone else making a deal is a good way to make a bad deal..

I'll wait til the deadline and make an informed, educated decision instead of losing my poop over Kyle Quincey.

Because Detroit goes out and gets him tells me all I need to know about what he brings. Good thing Datsyuk isn't playing tonight otherwise it would be an utter buttkicking.
