Brodeur
- Fly2idie

Brodeur was not crazy in value just long. Like many New Jersey contracts of the era, they took hometown discounts for the core and the team to stay intact.

Burke is much more likely to go after:
- B. Schenn
- Dubinsky
- Halak
- Stewart
- Raymond
- Harding
- Couturier (sending L. Schenn the other way).

What about Couturier for L. Schenn and then Phi sending the Schenn brothers + to Columbus in a trade for Nash..

And Burke has not much to give up in trades, since he will probably not want to trade:
- Grabovski
- Kulemin
- Colborne
- Kadri
- Blacker
- Franson
- Gardiner
- Gunarsson
- Aulie
- Reimer

So left with ´trade assets´ of:
- Gustavsson
- MacArthur
- Lombardi
- Komisarek
- Frattin (?)
- Schenn (?)
- Armstrong (?)

But these will not be able to get a decent return..

In my opinion, the only way to improve this team instantly, is including Phaneuf in a trade for an improvement on forward, and then hoping to reach the playoffs and at least passing 1st round. In summer, trying to sing Suter as your #1 D.

- Marinus1103

No one would take Phaneuf, but if Burke could get that done i don't think anyone would question his negotiating skills.

What would you want for Kopitar?
- faceto27

I've never thought about that before.

I'd rather trade Doughty than Kopitar.

Two years ago I would have been all over Doughty........ Not sure why, but he has regressed.

What has happened to him??

Can you think of a Leaf defensemen prospect that has showed so much promise as Gardiner, since the days of Borje?

I can't....... that is why you need to hang on to this kid. He has tremendous vision.... most of his fellow teammates aren't up to his speed and vision.

- faceto27

Berard (pre injury) who we traded for and Kenny Jonsson had serious upside in the 90's. Iafrate maybe in the eighties. Salming and Turnbull in the 70's.

Fair enough I guess.

But check out the Kings blog real quick. Look at what some bozo offered in there...

Edit: Here it is.. Schenn + Kulemin + 1st for Kopitar

He's one of the best 2 way centers in the league and puts up numbers on a team that is perennially one of the worst scoring teams in the league.. And that is the offer?

- StayTunedMTC

Not saying there are not bone heads in every fan base, and trolls in many blogs. LOL

Point is he is having a poor year, he is a 20-25 goal scorer. Bozak has what 7 fewer assists? Does that mean he is a good playmaking C or the benifactor of 2 stud linemates. Getz value at 5+ million is not as high as it would have been few years ago. That being said would love to have him between Lupul and Kessel. Just not going to see that happend this year
- Leafs24seven

Getz would be the BEST fit in TO...hands down...He's the only potentially available player that would help us out. Nash would be cool, but wouldn't help...and would be way too expensive to help the club.
We need an all-star playmaking center, and some consistent goaltending.
Enough with the Nash/Carter crap...we don't need em, we're not gettin em, we can't afford em!

I'd agree with Berard, neither Jonsson or Iafrate had the vision or smarts of Gardiner.

Salming definately.......... Turnbull, very good defensemen but he wasn't the swiftest of skaters. Nothing like Gards.

what a foolproof method to be right. says the eastern conference teams are out. if a western conference team lands nash he's right. if an eastern conference team lands him, hes okay because he says at the end "who knows if toronto, montreal etc get back in the hunt"

EPIC FAIL

I agree in that Nash isn't necessary here. I would take Carter has my 2C. And who do I need to kill in order to get Getzlaf here as my 1C??

As for goaltending.......neither one of the two we have will ever amount to a true number one stopper

There's conflicting reports all over the place regarding who's in and who's out on Nash...I don't think any of these "sources" have a clue....but I put my money on Bob Mac before anyone else.

Few people brought up Phaneuf today...funny, I was wondering why his name wasn't circulating in rumours earlier. I think he'd be an easy void to fill both on and off the ice....well except his huge checks, which usually put him out of position anyway.

EK's shift at MacD started at 6am, had to empty the grease from the fryer vats so the hashbrowns don't taste like chicken nuggets.

- modernhipster

Phaneuf is pure captain material. The kid is a leader and is in the role he was meant for. Fighting Foligno after taking the puck in the jaw, was an inspirational moment that was unfortunately wasted because his team didn't seem to catch on, but that guy has done everything for his team. Can't wait until his thirties when he really matures.

Think getzlaf wont be offered one of these lifetime contracts, leaf nation is really dreaming if they believe this
- top shelf 15

I think after the next CBA these types of contracts (Ovie,Carter etc..will not exist)

I don't know man. I don't think his head is completely in it.

I was one of the few Kings fans who weren't drooling over signing him to a big contract so he could be our "savior." But I think he could fetch the highest return and the subsequent domino effect would make our team better as a whole.

Apart from Luke Schenn, what could Toronto offer Philly for Brayden. From my understanding re-uniting the Schenn brothers in TO is something Burke has been hoping to do for some time.
As far as Carter is concerned, how high is Howson's asking price? Would Kadri and Franson get it done?

- cdn_ginger

fransons not going anywhere

I'm big on the kid's upside as well. He seems like the total package. (next year will be the true test though)

Jonsson and Iafrate were amazing skaters. Iafrate had toughness that is not really part of Gardiner's game. Both were good, but didn't show as much promise immediately, like this kid.

Turnbull could put up numbers. Might not have been the skating defenseman but was tough, kinda like a lesser Denis Potvin. Postionally sound and could punish your mistakes.

Can't picture the Blues parting with either player going into the playoffs, unless they were getting something like Grabo and Mac back. Although they might take Connolly. (not sure of their cap situation).
- stevecarpetman

Lots of space in STL..and they have Bishop who seems to be ready to come up and back up Elliot. Should they want to add some depth up front and on the back end. Ownership issues unsettled yet may stall any moves right now

Not all of leaf nation..Getzlaf will get a retirement contract next time ...
- Fruitcakenipple
Sorry about throwing all leaf fans in the same unrealistic group, there are some very knowledgeable leaf fans around yourself included
As far as getzlaf he will get in excess of 7 mil and for longer than 5 years ,hell spezza who isnt as good as him but still a decent 1st .line center got 7 years, top line centers are at premium if you one have one you dont tend to go far, they usually command top dollars and term and are worth a small fortune in trade

The owners and the GM's they hire are their own worse nightmare. They keep making rules to protect them from themselves. It is not the players driving up the salaries, it is the bidding wars and free agency.

They'll change the rule then later that year find a way to get around it. Even a mouse knows not to keep doing something that shocks him.

if dion was included in a trade id be pumped up,nevermind luke schenns struggles..sure dion has 30 pts or whatever it is but hes brutal in the d zone..dont think it will happen tho Burke is to loyal...ie. why is wilson still the coach???

Halak and Chris Stewart would be good for TO right now, and probably would not cost the farm. Upgrade in goal and a big winger who is looking like he needs a change of scenery

might not be the best offer they would get. but you get 2 you Dman with lots of up side and you get a young winger who could put up 30 goals.

- jonathonpeddle

which is boston 2nd.
