The same system even after a coaching change??...
- Fruitcakenipple

Yeah.

DL hired pretty much the same head coach just with a different face. No change in assistant coaches. Very minute differences in style.

Which is why adding even a Rick Nash won't drastically change things. It's a system issue.

Burke is much more likely to go after:
- B. Schenn
- Dubinsky
- Halak
- Stewart
- Raymond
- Harding
- Couturier (sending L. Schenn the other way).

What about Couturier for L. Schenn and then Phi sending the Schenn brothers + to Columbus in a trade for Nash..

And Burke has not much to give up in trades, since he will probably not want to trade:
- Grabovski
- Kulemin
- Colborne
- Kadri
- Blacker
- Franson
- Gardiner
- Gunarsson
- Aulie
- Reimer

So left with ´trade assets´ of:
- Gustavsson
- MacArthur
- Lombardi
- Komisarek
- Frattin (?)
- Schenn (?)
- Armstrong (?)

But these will not be able to get a decent return..

In my opinion, the only way to improve this team instantly, is including Phaneuf in a trade for an improvement on forward, and then hoping to reach the playoffs and at least passing 1st round. In summer, trying to sing Suter as your #1 D.

Couterier isnt going anywhere, hes basically untouchable , as Schenn i would think. JVR could be dealt it seems, prob in a package with bob

If they could......... Ovie would be gone. But at 9.5 million for the next 75 years, nobody is going to touch him.

Don't know why these stupid GM's do it.......... show me one long term contract, greater than 5 years that has been beneficial for the team

- faceto27

Agreed..huge mistake paying any of these young guys that much $$ for that long

Halak and Chris Stewart would be good for TO right now, and probably would not cost the farm. Upgrade in goal and a big winger who is looking like he needs a change of scenery

You may get Halak in the summer........ but no way the Blues trade any of their goalies while they are in a playoff push.

Same goes with the Nucks or Bruins

Getzlaf would be best fit, but in my opinion right now not a realistic target (I think UFA 2013 time will be interesting with regards to Toronto and Getzlaf (and Hartnell, J. Staal, Clowe, Filppula; lots of possible pending UFA C´s in 2013)).

Most realistic C target right now would be Kopitar in my opinion.

- Marinus1103

All of these names are way too unrealistic .this hope of gaining getzlaf through FA in two years is also nuts ,if he is going to FA there would be more than just toronto interested in his services and iam sure the price would be driven up quite high.

How about dumping ,some vets for picks and focus and drafting and development of better players,to sqaunder your youth for some vain atempt to make the playoffs as a lower ranked seed is crazy,Yet Toronto seems hell bent on this,

Apart from Luke Schenn, what could Toronto offer Philly for Brayden. From my understanding re-uniting the Schenn brothers in TO is something Burke has been hoping to do for some time.
As far as Carter is concerned, how high is Howson's asking price? Would Kadri and Franson get it done?

- cdn_ginger

Now that Philly has it's two defenseman, Toronto has nothing of value to the Flyers. They may be able to be a contract dump, but I doubt that lands them a quality prospect like JVR, Schenn or Couturier.

Cbj: Kyle Quincey, David Jones, Cameron Gaunce, Tor 2nd

might not be the best offer they would get. but you get 2 you Dman with lots of up side and you get a young winger who could put up 30 goals.

Toronto fans sure do overvalue their players.

Please tell me why the Kings have a need for another defenseman when their problem is scoring help on the wings?

I missed that memo.

- StayTunedMTC

We don't overvalue our players, we just do not understand other team's needs. They are not the same. Phaneuf for a top ten forward would make sense in many markets, but not LA where you currently have one of the best young defensive cores in the league.

Hossa has been pretty darn good.

I think Kovy is gonna pan out great now that he is playing a lot better.

If Luongo was good in the playoffs I would put him in this category.

Even Vanek has had some 40+ goal seasons while making 7+M

Hossa's cap hit is only 5.25 million

Kovy cap hit is 6.5 million

Luongo........ 5.3 million

Vanek .......... has never been a PPG player...... at that price, you should be a PPG

Yep the Leafs are out..

Bob Mac reported yesterday on TSN that Howson is asking for Jake Gardiner in the deal and Burke is refusing to add him....

The Leafs cant afford to deal that kid at this point..Way to much upside..

- Fruitcakenipple

Burke really likes this kid. It is well advertised that Burke is a loyal guy and grows attached to his players, and his players to him. Being straight up with people establishes those traits. They see Gardiner as great puck moving defenseman of the future, and Burke actively tried to obtain him. Gardiner is probably the Leafs most promising prospect right now, followed by Schenn with Kadri, Frattin, Colborne trailing far behind.

Part of trade rumours is showing confidence in your players and lighting fires under those who are not producing (much Like Anaheim a month or two did). By releasing the team's value for an individual player (prospect), Burke can back away from trade that he is not comfortable with and make the player (prospect) feel it was his value so high that it was the entire reason. Way to use the media to build loyality.

Can you think of a Leaf defensemen prospect that has showed so much promise as Gardiner, since the days of Borje?

I can't....... that is why you need to hang on to this kid. He has tremendous vision.... most of his fellow teammates aren't up to his speed and vision.

Fair enough I guess.

But check out the Kings blog real quick. Look at what some bozo offered in there...

Edit: Here it is.. Schenn + Kulemin + 1st for Kopitar

He's one of the best 2 way centers in the league and puts up numbers on a team that is perennially one of the worst scoring teams in the league.. And that is the offer?

Well, the Richards deal, if you want to call it a bust, isn't because of Richards but because of our management and coaching philosophy.

Within recent history, most people who leave LA do better than here, and those that come here from elsewhere do worse... this is offensively. It's the system, not the player.

Some times it's that, other times it is just fitting in to a new life. If you moved across the country, to a new job, had to find new friends, new hangouts, new everything, that might effect your life. Sometimes life side tracks you.

There's conflicting reports all over the place regarding who's in and who's out on Nash...I don't think any of these "sources" have a clue....but I put my money on Bob Mac before anyone else.

Few people brought up Phaneuf today...funny, I was wondering why his name wasn't circulating in rumours earlier. I think he'd be an easy void to fill both on and off the ice....well except his huge checks, which usually put him out of position anyway.

EK's shift at MacD started at 6am, had to empty the grease from the fryer vats so the hashbrowns don't taste like chicken nuggets.

Can't picture the Blues parting with either player going into the playoffs, unless they were getting something like Grabo and Mac back. Although they might take Connolly. (not sure of their cap situation).
