Hear. Hear. I think they gotta play this guy. Don't know what the ultimate solution is but maybe he can just play his way out of it. Using Bob hasn't helped on any level. Back in the 70's there was a relatively successful Pirates pitcher named Steve Blass. One year for some inexplicible reason he lost the ability to throw strikes and never regained it. They call it the Steve Blass Disease when a pitcher loses his control. Let's hope that Bryz hasn't lost the ability to stop pucks.. - 2731color

Can you understand how throwing up your hands in disgust every time he makes a save and giving a standing ovation when he's pulled may just seem like someone rooting for him to fail? I saw that at Saturday's game. I've also seen people not giving credit when he does well, because no matter how well he does he'll never be worth that contract in their eyes. I just would prefer to root and hope rather than constantly whine and belly ache and then be gleeful when he meets their expectations of him sucking. I'm not blind, I do see him struggling now, but I also remember Thomas losing his starting job 2 years ago after signing a big deal and then coming back the next year and winning the cup. - bodiva88
Sure, there are some people who no matter what he does won't be satisfied. Those folks are delusional. But there are also knowledgeable fans who can view the game the way it should be. Hockey is a team game, 5 players working in unison with a goaltender, at times the five man unit has had egregious breakdowns, blown coverages, and turnovers, that being said the goaltender is the last line of defense and can erase a team mistake at any time. Not only has Bryzgalov failed to do that, he is allowing countless soft goals that deflate the entire team. The game against Pittsburgh for example, the Flyers goaltenders allowed 5 soft goals. That is unacceptable in a beer league game, let alone an NHL game. Fans have been scarred by the goaltending for going on a quarter century now, Bryzgalov was supposed to be the answer. Thus far he hasn't been. Fans are frustrated, no more, no less. |

Im not a person who will "boo" a player just not my style. However, the Flyer fans had a right to boo what they saw Saturday (those goals were pathetic). Now that game is over, is time to get back to supporting the players that are on the ice for the Flyers. - stveshdy
I'm curious to know who exactly is booing at these games too. I've been told that because ticket prices are so high, that real fans can no longer attend games. This has been given as one of the reasons that the team has lost its home edge. So are the real fans now taking their boo cue from the casual rich fan who real fans say don't know the game anyway. Makes me think. |

I have no problem for booing a poor performance for that specific game. Once that game is over its time to start supporting the players again. We all know it was not a good game by Bryzgalov but that doesnt mean he "sucks". He has plenty of talent to turn things around and be successful. |

How are the rich fans casual? To me hockey was never a poor man's sport. In order to play the game properly, at least in the philly area. You have to have money. |

So it comes down to money. People spend a little money and they get to act like an ass. He was getting booed when he made saves too, hence the Bronx Cheer comment. They as a team have been pretty awful at home and there is no excuse, but what good does booing do? Bryz knows he has to be better. Maybe its just me, but booing is for morons. - Duran76
If an athlete doesn't have a thick enough skin to deal with people booing them, they are in the wrong business. |

Well, with the defensive corps bolstered we've got an improved opportunity for everybody to start keeping the puck out of our net and out of our zone. It'll still come down to less careless play by the forwards, though, and moreso better goaltending from our ten million dollar philosopher. - BulliesPhan87
The two veteran defenseman should help. They have made the lineup go from 7 rookies, to 5. That being said, they aren't miracle workers. If the goaltenders cannot start stopping the routine shots everything else is immaterial. |

Snider said last year after the revolving goalie crap, and I quote "Never again" well it's 9 months later and it's the same garbage at 3x the price. - PLindbergh31
When they signed Bryz they should've traded Bob. Bryz seems to need to play a lot to be effective. |

As fast as fans boo they can cheer. So give them something to cheer about. Its a team game and its impossible to play perfect every single game. You have to take what the fans/media say with a grain of salt. |

I have no idea. But this is the stuff I've heard. Be it on here, or WIP or just some people who I'm embarrassed to know when they open their mouths about hockey.
A real conversation I've had about Bryz regarding Bronx cheers with a so called fan.
Me - That's just stupid. Why do people feel the need to do that?
Him - They deserve to. They paid a lot of money to go to that game and Bryz is just terrible.
Me - Last week, you told me real fans don't go to the Wells Fargo center and that real fans stopped going when they left the Spectrum.
Him - Uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh. You know what I meant.
Like I said, I'm embarrassed to know him. To me, this is your typical fan that calls in on the sports talk shows. |

There's fan that proudly admit that they will boo a guy when he's struggling, and then in the same breath say they will love the guy when he gets it sorted out and is playing great. Then they get upset and mad when you call them a bandwagon or fairweather fan.
That's not passion. It's (frank)ing stupidity. |

Goes with the territory. Athletes are human, they aren't robots, but if they start letting fans and media effect their play on the ice/field then they truly do not have the mental toughness to succeed. |

I remember chanting, with everyone else, "Clarke must go" in 1990 before he got fired. I don't remember booing a player. Now that I don't go any more, I sit in the comfort of my living room and yell "F###" at the TV. It's liberating in a way. |

I find the Saturday afternoon crowds to be the least knowledgeable. A lot of businesses don't use their seats on the weekend and sell them or give them to guys with families. They have no idea what's going on. Freak out at every offside call (because they don't know what offside is, or because they don't realize the guys without the orange arm band are not calling a penalty.)
That goes against the whole idea that regularly all the fans in the lower bowl are clueless suits. So if you wear a suit to work, you don't know hockey? Not true of the regulars in my section. Yes, there are people in the building who are clueless and they are as likely to be wearing a jersey as a tie. |

I do the exact same thing, but I prefer to follow up with a "Let's pick it up boys". Positive encouragement. Much better for the soul. |
