It seems like Snow doesn't want to break the team up because he thinks they could go far in teh playoffs...he'll bring a bunch up next year...
- kear20

This is from the Islanders beat writer when he was asked the question of why aren't Cizikas, de Haan and Donovan aren't being brought up. The live chat is on Newsday.com.

Staple: You'll have to wait. My feeling is the staff wants to keep rookie pros like Cizikas and De Haan in Bridgeport for the entire year to continue to build on what they've done so far, rather than drop them into a messier situation up with the Isles. Best case scenario is Cizikas is ready to compete for a role starting next training camp.

if pap and nabokov arent signed within 6 days, trade them both....and yes, without garth actually saying it, to the highest bidder....and no, you dont overpay when youre the seller...if anything, you get MORE by being the seller...the BUYER is the one that has to overpay.

id also try to unload grabner

i think they should hold onto jurcina

- LetsGoIsles

If you read his comment that I replied to he's talking about us getting an impact player from another team, because we can't get one in FA. In that case, we'd be buyers and yes, we would absolutely overpay.

Interpreting what Staple said in his interactive chat today, it sounds like Jurcina may get moved, and not for very much. Which, in my opinion, is no big deal.

I'd move Grabner if we're not dumping him for a 2nd round pick or a project prospect. Other than that, he's got more value here.

and this isn't a bad thing...that team is donovan's and cizkas right now...what can't be over looked is the job colliton has done as their captain..i was at an open pratice last week and casy ran a drill that was a little off..before thompson could blow the whistle colliton skated over to him and pointed out what could have been done better

Look, I know that in my heart that we aren't going to trade for someone that is the face of the franchise such as Kane or Parise. I would love Islanders to trade for a small chip player that would make sense for us in the long run. I don't want them to trade Jurcina. Believe it or not, I like Jurcina. I wouldn't miss Parentau if he leaves. Someone mentioned that Jurcina might go to Jets. call me silly but would islanders be able to trade for Evander Kane? Jurcina, Poulin, a first round and 4th round for Evander Kane, Byfruglien and 3rd round??

No I totally agree, I think it's a great thing. It means were starting to develop organizational depth.

I've seen some of the same people that complained Bailey was rushed, complain as to why Cizikas etc... aren't playing with the big club. It's a total contradiction. Whether anyone wants to hear/accept it, or not, you're going to have to have patience with this organization.

lets summarize what ACTUALLY was said:

Not talking about that. Talking about to make the team better for future, not a 1st round loss. Isles can't get FA here so you get a chance to make a move for a player under contract. Use your imagination Chiefs, use farm players and picks too, not just current NHL Islanders
- brodydog29

You said before the deadline. If I was the GM I wouldn't make a single move before next Monday, obviously unless there was a great steal to be had. You're almost always going to overpay at the deadline. If you asked if I would make trades after the season, at the draft, and/or before the beginning of next season..that's a different story. My point is that there's no reason to rush into a deal and force one in the next 6 days. I wouldn't do that at all.

a) he never mentioned impact player- he said a player under contract
b) you said if you were the GM you wouldnt make a single move (barring a steal)

having said that, if pa and nabokov arent signed within 6 days id trade them both, and yes without garth actually saying it, to the highest bidder

That literally may be one of the worst trade proposals I have ever seen. Sorry, nothing against you personally but I can't even begin to describe how terrible that is.

Ok, you're right. A player under contract. Maybe he was hoping I suggested trading for another Rolston? Someone equally as bad, but you know...under contract. He said someone that would make this team better for the future, so if that's not an impact player than I'm not sure what you'd interpret that as.

And no..going on strictly what I know as of right now, I wouldn't trade PA or Nabokov. Not now. I'd rather ride it out and make a shot at the playoffs. Unless PA or Nabokov have made it clear to Garth that there is no chance of re-signing here, I would rather see them stay.

Why is it terrible? If Winnipeg would go for it then you pull the trigger...I just think you'll need to give a lot more to get Evander Kane and Buff...

I meant terrible in general. Any Islander fan would obviously take that deal in a heartbeat.

Jurcina may be, at best, worth a 4th round pick. While Poulin is a great prospect, they already have a very good young goaltender in Pavelec. The 1st round pick is all well and good, and the 4th is essentially nothing, but they'd be giving up their 2 best roster players. Both of whom are young and have plenty of NHL years ahead of them. To think that they'd trade those two and then throw in a 3rd round pick is just insane.

Not sure if he's just speculating, or relaying what he's heard from a source, but:

Chris Botta @ChrisBottaNHL
Nabokov will get his $ (2-3 mill per), but needs to know if DiPietro is still in Wang's plans to get NHL starts while rehabbing.

Well we all know if Nabby doesn't resign, the main reason why. Give Nabby 2 years $6 milllion and if DiPietro is healthy, ever again he can just be a plain old back up.

Yea like I said a couple posts up, obviously any one of us or the Isles mgmt would make that trade in their sleep. Think of it from the other way though.

Speaking in terms of value to their team, and not comparing skill levels...

Would you trade Winnipeg: Tavares, Hamonic and a 3rd round pick for Brad Stuart, Pavelec, a 1st and a 4th?

Kane is their franchise player and Byfuglien is their franchise d-man. I obviously don't think Kane is remotely on JT's level but just trying to spin it in the other direction, in terms of their importance to their team.

Who do you think is better Brock Nelson or Strome? You probably have to give one up to get Ryan or Getzlaf...they say Nelson is a stud in college...

Strome, Brock isn't going to be half the player Strome will
