Well I'd say he's a safe pick, but he's still unproven compared to guys of his calibre already in the NHL. It's likely he becomes a top defenseman, but if the Oilers are looking to at least be competing for playoffs next year, its more probable they can get there with someone who's young and good now than banking on Murray to have an impact right away.
- Jack-artist

Not necessarily true. Again, depends on who they get.

But do you think the Canes thought Jeff Skinner was gonna be THAT good THAT soon? They didn't even think he was gonna make the team when they picked him. Look at him now.

I dont think your gonna get a dman THAT good with that pick. Whats the point of trading a dman of that caliber already on your team and NHL ready just to pick a guy like Murray?

Its just highly unlikely.

Right, and they need quality wingers not second rate top 6 players.
- whosyodaddy

Actually, from my point of view, they need offense, regardless of what position people play.

Gagner is most definitely a second line center.

Saying that he's never been a top six center and then using the word "possible" to describe Bernier is hilariously contradictory.

Richards moves to the wing like he has done many times in his career. Then they have 2 guys on a line who can take faceoffs.
- SuperM

Carter or Nash are better options than Edmonton's Gagner and Hemsky

Carter takes faceoffs and plays wing

EDM is not trading with LA for Johnson

The Kings lost 10 times by 1-0 score. Not Quick.

Yes, that's much better. Changes everything.

How is that Contradictory, he hasn't been given a chance to prove himself at the NHL level, he is projected to be a solid number 1 goalie with huge potential. Gagner has played 5 seasons without hitting the 50 point plateau. Sorry to say it but I expect more from a second line center

If Hall wins at least one then Giroux wins at least 3.
- keatondixon

I'd be okay with that. Giroux is amazing.

Why would you want to supplant one of the better 2-way C in the league with a guy who has scored 25% of his points in one week?
- whosyodaddy

What 2 way center are you talking about?

You know there are much better deals out there involving those two LA pieces than the one you have suggested. I mean Grossman just got 2 picks, but you think JJ will go for Gagner?

But here's the problem.

Carter? The Jackets will want at least Bernier + Voynov.

Nash? Bernier, Voynov, Clifford and a 1st round pick. At least.

Goal scoring will do that for you. Look what happened to Chi with theyre terrible D and Goaltending. Started to fall a little and lost like 10 straight.

Pietangelo > Fowler > Murray is how I'd rank them now.

I don't see St. Louis giving up Pietrangelo anytime soon though.

- Jack-artist

Saying Fowler > Murray is like saying Gagner > Yakupov.

And yeah, I agree... St. Louis won't give him up... Kids a beast.

No, you don't expect more from a second line center. That's second line offensive numbers. 40-60 points. There are first liners who flirt around 60 points each year. Gagner came into the league at a very young age and has consistantly produced offense. Period. He's still ridiculously young and can only get better.

If you actually WATCHED the Oilers and compared Gagner from when he was drafted till now, you'd see he IS better.

Its contradictory because your saying Gagner isn't living up to his potential as a scoring center and then talking about the potential of Bernier. Potential is only worth so much. He's been average in the NHL thus far. Has shown no indication he's ready to be a 50+ game starter.

I think what amazes me most about the Oilers is with 3 future league MVP's and great players like Gagner and Hemsky kicking around (not to mention the other guys) you still can't climb out of the division cellar.
