It was a decent try just missing the back up goalie. |

I think Cloutier is way over valuing Gagner, He's a good player but by no means would he be worth Schenn, plus. I don't even think I would do Schenn straight up. - Mystery
Shenns not as good as you think he is either. Healthy scratch the other night. Hrs becoming over rated. |

My $.02 on Gagner's value:
He is now a good, not great, second line center with ~60% potential to become a great, but not elite, second line center. His compete level and heart are enormous which could easily lead to him overperforming in the playoffs - particularly if there is a great big scary line 1 to draw away an opponent's best defenders. He has nice hands, good hustle, great hockey IQ and plays well on the PP. Little injury history. Next season 45-65 pts seems likely. With good development I see his ceiling ~70 points, though ~80 is possible. At worst he could remain in the 40-50 doldrums - an adequate, but not good, second line center. Seems most likely (~60%) to give a good 5-10 ~60 point seasons.
Amazing combination of pedigree, youth, experience and performance. Drafted # 6 overall. 22 years old. GP 341 G 72 A 138 P 210 -45 174PM 24PPG ( http://oilers.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8474040)
He's not Gretzky, but he's having no trouble showing that he is a proven and reliable NHL level top 6 player and should continue to be at least as good or better for the next decade plus. He has also shown flashes of genuine brilliance, even though his development was badly mishandled by his team.
IMHO Gagner is very near to breaking through and his timetable to do so (if he's going to) synchs perfectly with The Plan. A lot of people disagree. Let's say we swap him.
Say we get a young, big, strong, can't-miss second-pairing d-man who can clear the net and move the puck - preferably a right-handed shot. This would immediately make Edmonton a more balanced team and translate into more wins next season... which would translate into a worse draft pick next season which might mean that in year 5/5 of The Plan we barely miss for our Cup bid because we just didn't have the organizational depth to overcome injuries (sound familiar?). Then we spend the next 10 years endlessly tweaking our roster trying to recreate that one elusive moment of near-glory (sound familiar?).
You know what happens when you rush a miracle? You get rotten miracles! We will someday need to make a depth-for-quality move to pick up the one perfect player we need to fill X roster hole, and on that day my friends, we will pay large, large, large... |

Richards has and can play the wing. - Maxbone
And he sucked at it with the Kings. No need to keep beating a drum if it doesn't make a sound. |

So you're saying fans of teams other than the Oilers know more about the Oilers than Oilers fans?
Keep in mind the Kings are desperate to find a way to score goals, and upper management jobs could be on the line if they don't make the playoffs this season. - Maxbone
They certainly know more than a guy who's never played hockey and would have more experience writing about the exciting world of competitive eating.. |
