Yea, well, Joey (frank)ing MacDonald looks unbeatable with the Red Wings. I wonder why.
- LordStanley88

Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterburg, Franzon, Bertuzzi, Holmstrom etc.

The Wings just have a well place System with the right players in place. Much like the Devils for many years from the mid 90's to early 2000's. I was there a week ago (My first time seeing the Home Orange shirts ever). Datsyuk puts fear into players when he's on the ice. I'm telling you, Coburn wanted nothing to do with Datsyuk. Goaltending isn't an issue for the Wings because of the players they have on the ice. They'll turn an average player into a star but I also believe the Flyers can do this too.

Why? Because the Red Wings are a team where 90% of the roster have played with eachother for almost 5+ years now.

That team has had the same personal and the same coach and is comprised of so many veteran players, its no wonder why they are so good. That's not an exception, and it doesn't mean the Flyers primary issue isn't in goal just because MacDonald is in net.

And for the record, MacDonald has been exceptional for the Red Wings. He is taking the oppurtunity and running with it.

I watch the Pens yesterday and the pens today. The Pens don't put that much fear into my heart but maybe that's because they're without Crosby. Malkin and Staal are 2 solid centers, they'd be number 1 anywhere else but as a team, they Pens don't do it for me. As far as I'm concerned, we beat ourselves yesterday. The Pens were perfectly beatable yesterday. We let 2 points slip between our fingers and this is more then just goaltending.

Make no mistake about it, the Pens are an elite team.

The Pens were very much in the game yesterday. However, the Flyers can compete with teams like the Pens, even when they have Crosby. I look at Crosbys abscence and just counter with the fact that the Flyers are without Pronger. Both are game-changers.

The Pens looked flat today. They obviously played yesterday, and didn't exactly get a great effort in net from Johnson today (although I can't put full blame on him for any of the goals he gave up).

The Pens are a very good team WITHOUT Sid. Imagine adding the best player in the world at the deadline for FREE. If this team gets Crosby back for the playoffs, they are the favorite in the East IMO.

As for the bolded, the game was lost yesterday because of sub-par goaltending from both of our goalies. Every goal scored was honestly brutal.

that doesn't account for chemistry. remember when we would lose lindros for the whole year with a concussion and when he came back into the lineup he would ruin the chemistry?

How do you figure?

They have the same coach, same two goalies, same 6 dmen they had last year. The only signifcant defensive forward they lost was Talbot, who's contributions have been adequately replaced on the cheap by a combo of Joe Vitale and Richard Park.

They haven't been healthy this year. That's the only difference. Malkin, Staal, Letang, Orpik, and Kennedy have all missed time.

They have been excellent when you consider some of their injuries. The craziest part is, is that they have been as good as they have despite some key injuries, the most obvious being to their best player.

Imagine the Flyers losing Briere, Jagr, Coburn, Timonen, and Talbot all within a relatively small time period from one another. Now imagine that during that entire time, the Flyers only had Giroux for about ten games.

Theres no way they'd have the Pens record.

Basic saves that need to be made. Flyers got Bryzgalov so they didnt have to worry about goals like that going in. That is the reason Leighton and Boucher are no longer on the roster with the big club. Have to be better all around.

Speaking of...
Chris Pronger might seek out former Philadelphia Flyers center Keith Primeau for advice as he struggles with his concussion issues. Primeau's career was cut short by concussions, which appears to be the fear for Pronger, as well. It's hard to blame the big defenseman for taking such a track, although it's disturbing to think that it's gotten this far.

We shouldn't be talking about goaltending at all, it's a shame. Was hoping we'd be past that. Here's to getting better.

And that's what I'm saying. There are way to many goals going in that are just routine saves.

You can only address team defence so much. At some point, your goalie has to be able to make simple saves. If your goalie can't make simple saves, I dont care if you have 6 Shea Webers, you wont last in the playoffs. Soft goals cannot be tolerated in the playoffs. At the rate their going in our nets, we'll be swept in the first round.

Goaltending should be the last issue brought up when talking about the Flyers. You spend $51M for 9 yrs and a NMC you shouldnt even have to worry about it. Its still early on and Bryz can still be a very good goalie, one that we expected. I just didnt think his numbers would be pointing in the opposite direction of his career numbers.

Agreed. You have to make basic saves. Your defense is going to make mistakes (cant play perfect) its the goalies job to try and make the save. Now when a goalie is "hung out to dry" I have no problems with him giving up a goal. The defensive as a whole needs to be much better and the goaltending needs to step up also.

You need the forward to do what they do, the defense to do what they so and the goalie to do what he does. Keep it simple.

Our goaltending has been bad LATELY but Homer hasn't thrown in the towel. Homer put us in a position of success. If Homer can pull off one more move and get us to be as deep as the Rangers and Bruins, we're in grate shape. Gaustad is the guy. He can be our Brian Boyle. He can be our Gregory Campbell (Obviously Campbell isn't as big). We have to get ourselves set down the middle. Gaustad isn't on Homer's radar, I'll be very disappointed in him.
