So, Bill, what are your thoughts on:

1. Trading for Nash?

2. Trading for another goalie options?

3. Changing coaches?

4. Other potential deals?

Sorry, getting bummed by all the negativity and idiocy

- Jsaquella

You didn't ask me but I would like to respond (it would make me feel special!)

1. No. Unless there is some way Bryz is convinced to go to the CJB because the spotlight will leave him alone. I do not see this happening in any way shape or form.

2. Maybe, depends on the next few games and what is available. That said, Bob should not be given away and his value should be set at a 1st rounder.

3. No, although I have not seriously thought about it. Wait I thought about it.....No.

4. I think we have already given up a lot for rentals. Yes a Gaustad or Moen face off PK guy would be nice. Someone with size. That said, we have already traded away all of the assets that I would be willing to part with. Is this the year to go all in? I am actually laughing while writing this because the answer is so obvious to me right now. No.

With the exception of one terrible season a few years ago Flyers always go all in. The Rangers are the best team in the East right maybe even the league but aside from goaltending can you say they are THAT much better than philly? I dont think so, I know Flyers have much more depth offensively. Henrik has never done anything special in the playoffs, granted he looks very good this season so that could change. As he should I believe he makes more than 7 mil a season so he is paid accordingly (must be nice). My point is if the Flyers can somehow either get a reliable goaltender they can compete with anyone.

Nash to Philly makes no sense. I believe Nash doesn't want to go to the Kings. or do the Rangers want Nash. Which makes Columbus pushing Nash on Philly seem like one of there only options to trade him.

What number is Kubina wearing? Don't give him that stupid number 13. It looks weird on defenseman.

My guess would be 71

Didn't Bill himself say they were possibly looking at bringing in a 3rd goalie?

I agree, they don't need Nash. Would he be great to have, absolutely. But if they are expecting to have Homer gut the team to bring him in, then they (hopefully) will not get a response back about any offer.
Unless they could bring him here, without giving up either one of schenn or couturier, and somehow jettison one of the major cap hits in bryz or briere in the process than I'm for it. Other than that, leave it alone.

Only way I trade for Nash, is if Columbus agrees to take on Bryz contract.

Per darren dreger: clb is asking for JVR, bob and one of either schenn or cooter "as part of the asking price"

If thats only part of the asking price.... wtf else do they want? Leave it alone homer.

On a positive note can anyone think of a team with a better D from 1-6? We are looking good. Gus, MAB, and Lilja for depth. I'm excited to see them next game.

Timonen/Coburn
Carle/Mezzy
Grossman/Kubina

????

Ideas on pairings?

I think it is unlikely another move is made today or at least till after the Wives Carnival is over. Doubt they are going to pull any players off the autograph table to inform them they have been moved

Could not agree more. Losing one of those two is hurting the team in the long run for a guy they, honestly, don't need to have to be successful. They need the centers for the immediate future because I see Briere falling off majorly before my eyes, and he still has three more years on his deal

Timo/coburn
Carle/grossman
Mez/kubina

Ideally with each pair you have a guy who can make a good first pass (timo, carle, kubina) and a guy who can be physical. Although id like to see coburn and mez play with a little more of a mean streak

Carchidi is bushleague as far as I'm concerned. I don't put any value in what he says/writes.

I don't want Laviolette fired tonight or anything, but I think I'd like to see a more pulled back, defensively responsible system from him starting next year. It's too late for fundamental changes at this point. I think the raw talent of the forwards would allow for the Flyers to score more goals than teams like say, the Kings, if they were playing much more defensively minded hockey. Goals will drop, but you have to hope that the goals against drops more. But that's all for next season IMO, again, too late now really.

Still, maybe everyone gets on the same page, goalies get confident/play better, new defense plays great, and things roll here on out. I don't know anymore.

- eayost

Some of the goals the Pens scored yesterday had absolutely nothing to do with Lavis system... There is 13 year old kids that can stop alot of the shots that went in yesterday

My comment wasn't in reply to just yesterday's game, but the season in general. Goaltending was the main issue yesterday, but team defense has been a bigger issue throughout the bulk of the season

I agree. Schenn and cooter are going to be special. JVR has 40 goal potential. Why make that trade if it doesnt put us over the hump. The cost is too high imo. Let the kids get their bruises this year and it will serve us better in the future.

Howson should ask for that kind of deal, he is trying to make his team better. However, I'm very confident Homer would say "no thanks".

I had this terrible nightmare last night. Howson took homer out and got him all liquored up and told him he cohld have nash for giroux jvr and schenn. Homer said sure and then passed out. He woke up the next morning and called howson to ask what happened and howson just laughed and said no take backs. Worst nightmare ever. I literally jumped out of bed and checked tsn to make sure it was a dream

The pairs will more then likely be

Timonen-Coburn
Carle-Kubina
Grossman-Meszaros

Pretty much the same idea of what we've had going this season and the last. Kubina replaces Pronger and Grossman edges out what Lilja and O'Donnell were bringing to the table.
