Just confirmed to me that the question about sending Bob to the AHL and recalling Leighton was asked by Sam Carchidi.

after yesterday hard to say ignorance. That was really really bad. Do you think it's different in any other major market? Carey Price got roasted for some time. Any good goalies going to avoid Mtl in the future?
- ukeman

Okay you're right you know what the fans in Philly are just so pleasant and classy to play in front of. I mean what am i thinking. They boo the goalie even when he posts a shutout. Hell they even booed Cole Hamels last year when he got off to a bad start but he's only a World Series MVP, what am I thinking? I know no athlete has ever expressed displeasure to play here. Tocchet didn't ask for a trade when he got booed off the ice after a 40 goal season, so you're right it's no big deal to play here. That has nothing to do with why people keep coming up with "oh he can't play in a big market blah blah blah."

Yes, Philly is just a great city to play in and the Fans are sooooooo knowledgeable.

Wouldn't necessarily call it an aberration but the team play in front of him has a fair share to do with it. I think Bryz HAS allowed too many bad goals this season. The Flyers are an average defensive team, but it's not like they are some reincarnation of the 1992-93 Kings who were a total run-and-gun squad (scoring 4.02 goals per game and allowing 4.05) and made it to the Finals.
- bmeltzer

I agree that he has allowed too many bad goals. No excuses for that. But the lack of a defensive focus really puts the pressure and spotlight on the goaltender, particularly among people who don't see the whole game, just the score or the highlights.
I'm sure that's why they invested so much in what they thought was an elite goaltender.

They have some decent dmen, but the turnovers coming out of the zone in an effort to move quickly up ice, and the lost forechecks leading to odd-man rushes the other way, and the lack of guys willing to move bodies away from the crease, are what lead to the majority of goals against. All fixable problems that have little to do with the goaltender. And all problems that existed last season as well. I think they made some good moves this week to help fix some of the problem.

And I don't think Jagr was complaining about it. Just stating a fact.

Remember how great Rob Blake and Eric Desjardins were in that Cup run?

you should write for the national media. Same bs they always go to, you left out snowballs and Santa. Philly is no different than any other east coast city. Relax, you're part of this fanbase you hate.

I left out Snowballs at santa because they have given me a plethora of ammo on top of it. I might be a part of the fanbase but it doesn't mean I don't recognize it's utter ignorance which btw is very hard to gauge how much we have in comparison to other east coast cities, just b/c they have it doesn't mean we have to outperform them in the stupid department.

No, if he is like me, then he like me stands outside this "city" fanbase. Its easier for me because I only root for the Flyers in this town. I absolutely despise Iggles fans and fear that Phillies fans are becoming Boston south.

I don't even acknowledge that basketball exists.

I think the knowledgeable fans know the difference between a goal scored off of a defensive breakdown and a soft goal.

Although the overall defensive effort by the Flyers hasn't exactly been given a bye from observers, it's the extraordinary number of soft goals given up that lead to the frustration being exhibited against and the spotlight shining on the goaltending.

I have no issues with saying that the Flyers fans that attend the game, tend to be some of the more unintelligent fans i have the pleasure of sitting with. Phillies fans are intelligent, as are Eagles fans (though they are ruthless).

However, Flyers fans are incredibly frustrating when it comes to goaltending and the powerplay. Year after year, goalies get Bronx cheers for making saves. Bryz deserves plenty of criticism, but I see it this way. When a new game starts, get behind your goalie until he makes a mistake. The fact that he'll get booed on the first save of the game is ridiculous. Just as goalies need to have short-term memory, so should the fans. The same goes for the PP. The idiots that scream SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT once the puck touches the stick is laughable. I sat in front of a guy who yelled at Jagr to shoot the puck when he was facing the boards in the corner. I couldn't believe what I was hearing...

Its too bad these knowledgeable fans are seemingly so few and far between. Because all I hear on WIP and read in the papers is that the goalie needs to be waived like Wade Redden was for the Rangers. A single person is knowledgeable. A group of people are an idiotic rabble.

Your first mistake is listening to WIP. Your second is reading the papers. Two completely non-credible sources for hockey coverage. Just go back a few pages and listen to Sam Carchidi's question posed to Homer about the goaltending.

if it's so bad why do so many athletes come back here to stay after they're done? I applaud that you want to stand up for bryz. I want him to succeed and understand he definitely not the only issue. But trying to put blame in the coach or fans after what we saw yesterday is misguided. Sure when you go to a game you hear some stupid stuff. But that really does happen everywhere. As much as you don't like the criticism of bryz I hate Philly fan bashing. There are idiots everywhere, but they don't define the fanbase.

I'm not blaming the fans or coach. I'm just saying the stupidity in the stands does not one iota of good to help the team. What's more important? Live up to some reputation for being an idiot or like Steve said above, having a short term memory and at the start of every game get behind the player? I'll take the latter, but I'm sure most feel they have to fit in and live up to some undesirable reputation that somewhere along the line was developed as the status quo in what a fan is supposed to do.

I can't take WIP anymore, It might make me bust a crowbar through my car radio if it catches me in the wrong mood. A guy last weekend calling in to blame Bryz for the Rangers loss last weekend when he didn't even play than goes on about how he's not worth the 81 million the Flyers are giving him(no I typed 81 he said it Roonoshockey heard the same calller too).

People saying how we got Grossman and Kubina makes Carle expendable, people raving for nash, ugh! When the Flyers were hot all I heard on that station was about a football team that is irrelevant until next september, a baseball team that signed a middle reliever and closer when they need hitting to come through in the clutch oh and the ever so underachieving Sixers (can they at least make the playoffs more than once every 5 years before they get put on such a pedestal?) Sometimes I wonder if informing myself about the team and game I love is a curse and that i'd be better putting 5 minutes a week into learning about it like the rest of them.

I was in Chicago when the united center first opened to see the hawks and I hear this guy in front of me complaining the "nobody's hitting anyone". sound familiar?

when I lived in Tampa for 4 yrs I listened to the sports radio and I used to here the same stuff I hear now in Philly. I knew this girl who said she hated the bucs fans because they were trash...she was so superior, wasn't she?

what is it about this area? prob an inferiority complex amongst some that are so worried about how we are perceived. if you pay your $$ for the tix, within reason, you should feel free to boo a poor effort from your plyr/ team. it's not something I choose to do, but I certainly get booing the abomination yesterday. I've seen games in plenty of other cities and this singling out of Philly fans is bogus BS from the over-sensitive crowd.

I'm not defending anybody except perhaps the knowledgeable fan. As I already stated simply, those who know the difference between a defensive lapse and a stoppable goal.

you welcome as to the other ... thing

Edit: In all seriousness, yes fans have a right to boo, do they take it to another level here? Yes and to say otherwise is just being in denial. Did Bryz deserve to get booed yesterday? OF course but the only problem I have is even when he posts a shutout he gets booed, and that's just not fair. Sorry if that opinion makes me insecure.

Another anonymous dude claiming to have NHL contacts. No idea whether or not he really does, but I sure as hell hope he's wrong. After signing Kubina and Grossman, we certainly do not need Luke Schenn, and there is nobody else on the Leafs I'd want that would be worth JVR.

@HockeyyInsiderr Source confirms #Leafs still front runners to landing JVR; #Preds have also expressed huge interest in #Flyers forward.
