they want to get rid of him, they want to lose his contract. They aren't going to get what they gave. It's not going to cost as much as you are saying, IMO. - burn
Howson would be a fool to "get rid of him" for any less than it cost him. Buy high, sell low..Go find a new job |

I would be too heart broken if we move the 1st this year. Not a great draft, and being as it's not going to be a top 10 I see no reason not to move it (for the right deal). I'd rather not, but I'm not going to call it a no-go. - burn
UG will flip his lid if Burke trades away another 1st round pick. That's the key to winning a cup after all. |

Why would we give up what they did?
I get it if we're talking Nash for that package(and that is pretty fair value, though I'd move Kadri over Colborne, because we're getting a winger, not a center) ... But for Carter? His value has dropped. Big time. - Feeling Glucky?

No choice. He paid too much, doesn't mean other will pay the same.
If he's getting pressure from above to lower the cap (they have a high payroll and worst team , bad combo) he'll have no choice but to take less. |

Because Columbus would ask for that.
why would the leafs pay more for a player a year or 2 older, higher cap hit and doesnt fill a #1 need and you can get 30-40 Goals from.
Carter would not be cheaper than what they paid even if hes having a crap season in a place he doesnt want to be |

I'm not sure, but I'm quite sure that the Leafs and everyone else isn't going to pay what it cost to get him. If they are desperate to move him they will have to accept what is offered.
All the rumors I've seen for Carter are a lot lower. |

Young players improve, and our best players, Lupul and Liles excepted, have years of improvement ahead of them, before they hit their peaks.
The payroll is a mess? How? Connolly, lombardi, and Armstrong are all done next season, And Komi the season after all the bad contracts, done in a couple of seasons. And they all have a corresponding youngster in the Marlies waiting to step up into their roles. And that's assuming Burke doesn't trade any of these guys... And he's shown the ability to move "unmovable" guys in the past.
As for playoffs, they're the thing we're in a position to get to, for the first time since JFJ ruined this team. - Feeling Glucky?
Are you reading what you post?
We have almost 18 - 19 million tied up in bad contracts...sure 16 of that will be off the books in 2 YEARS!!!!!
That's two years we could be playing some kids. |

We need gunner back
We need to fire Wilson
We need a second line .... Grabo has disappeared... Time to move him
We need to fire Wilson
We need more effort from the third line
We Need to fire Wilson - faceto27
We don't have a real third line...
We need to promote Eakins |

Kadri, Franson and a 2nd round pick. - OBGYN Kenobi
i think you have to add more. Take out Franson put in Schenn and make it a late pick. |

It's a god damn shame that guys like Frattin/Kadri/Colborne/Holzer/Blacker etc cant get a shot with this team because we have to play Connolly/Armstrong/Lombardi/Komi ... |

I figured that would be fair since they'd be getting rid of that ridiculous contract and adding very little payroll, which has to be a contributing factor for Columbus. |

thing is leafs have a lot of dead weight in contracts sitting on their team
Komisarek,Armstrong,Connolly,Lombardi
its not that these are particularly horrible players, its just that their either overpaid to begin with or not skating to their potential |

MacArthur, Kadri, 2nd - Boosinicka
I would do that and run because it would be a robbery. His contract despite the length is very respectable at 5.3. Further on in his career if he produces at least 30-30 it will be a very good contract as the salary cap goes up! |
