Think about it. Makes perfect sense. We gain valueable cap space. Franson is expendable. Lebda has Cup experience. Win-win.

Acquire someone along the lines of Nash in a "Big Trade"

This will do one of two things to our position on the proverbial edge of the knife. Either a) put us into a better playoff position or b) put us out of the playoffs.

If we are in, hurray! The trade was awesome and went off without a hitch. If we fall further out of the playoffs, hurray! A better draft pick, a new coach, and a fresh start for a defensive and goal tending corp that is a little older and a little wiser.

I don't think Burke wants to trade away our own 1st in the position we are in. He may trade someone else for another first, such as Grabs.

I'm not certain Burke will chance another top 10 pick going the other way, like the Kessel Deal, in case this hypothetical trade knocks us the other way off the "knife edge"

they want to get rid of him, they want to lose his contract. They aren't going to get what they gave. It's not going to cost as much as you are saying, IMO.

Why would we give up what they did?

I get it if we're talking Nash for that package(and that is pretty fair value, though I'd move Kadri over Colborne, because we're getting a winger, not a center) ... But for Carter? His value has dropped. Big time.

I would be too heart broken if we move the 1st this year. Not a great draft, and being as it's not going to be a top 10 I see no reason not to move it (for the right deal). I'd rather not, but I'm not going to call it a no-go.
