Just watched a post game interview where Bryz says he's trying to find it in his soul to play in this city...

The question was about the boos.

@John_Ranieri know what flyers need but I was told from within organization they like nash. Picked up 2 D men in last couple days.

- jesustouchedme

They have liked Nash since he was in the draft. He's a Helluva a player. I'm sure there's a level of interest. But in a cap system, that hit is terrifying.

Only thing that leaves me confused is Nash's list of teams. Why is Columbus pushing a deal with Philly if Nash doesnt have them listed as a team he would play for?
- stveshdy

that list is really irrelavant. he just has to approve a proposed trade and GMs know the mkts that most plyrs want to go to. as soon as he had a framework of a deal, howson could check with Nash and that's how it would prob go...at least that's what friedmann implied on HNIC last nite.

Who wouldn't want to play in Philly? Except for Tim Thomas, but hes a racist.

Some folks, such as Eric Francis, feel that the list isn't real, that Nash wants to stay East or go to a serious contender.

He's a pending UFA, what team is gonna give up a stud player for him?

Carle offers much more to the Flyers in their lineup then him being dealt.

- flyguy12

1st rounder is possible And that asset is much more valuable to CLB than a plyr that carle would likely fetch at this point. like I said, a real stretch of a scenario for sure.

It was a cut (not continued directly from the question) so it could be an attempt to stir the pot byCSN. Either way not a smart thing to say. Pissed me off.

From an interview in November with Bryz's former team about Bryz so take it with a grain of salt :

Derek Morris :

Q: What is this team's collective mindset as you take on your former goaltender?

First of all we have to throw a lot of pucks at Bryz. He's known for letting in bad goals, you know, so I think our mindset is going to be get the puck down behind the net and hopefully he comes out and plays a few because he doesn't like to do that.

We have to put some pressure on Bryz. We've gotta make it a tough night, we gotta have guys in front, we've gotta be banging away at rebounds. He gets frustrated that way.

Q: There is a mental strength that is missing there, right?

We're actually glad -- first of all, I'm glad he's gone because the guy we brought in has done a great job and fitted in real well, made our team even closer. There was some animosity there with Bryz sometimes. We don't have that with [Mike Smith] so we have a good group and we're winning games because of it.

Adrian Aucoin :

Q: Derek Morris just described the relationship between the room and Ilya last year as one with animosity. Is he right?

Absolutely. I honestly haven't met almost any hockey player that's a bad person. I think he was different as a player -- obviously he was a great player -- more as a person. Sometimes he just did things that weren't very typical of hockey players or teammates but he's a good goalie.

Q: Is he misunderstood? Sometimes you look at a guy who's speaking a second language and go wait a minute. My take on it is that's an excuse, so I'm gonna say no, but I'm not his teammate. I was just watching.

No, he's a pretty smart guy. He knew what he was saying.

------------

That should be the definitive answer to anyone who hopes that Bryz is just misunderstood.

The only way economically I can see the Flyers getting involved in the Nash sweepstakes is some kind of three team trade where Nash won't come to Philly, but the Flyers move assests to acquire a goalie through a three way trade.

From a cap standpoint, I just don't see how they can afford Nash. Remember JVR' cap hit is only $1.65 this year. I don't want him moved to begin with, but he really doesn't add that much against the cap to acquire Nash.

Why would Homer have 2 separate meetings to smoke screen?
- jesustouchedme

I can't remember which reporter (not one of the local dufuses) tweeted that it was Howson pushing Nash, not Homer looking for him.

Howson wants something from the Flyers badly and figures they were a willing trading partner in the past. But he's barking up the wrong tree (we can only hope).

He's not misunderstood. The clip on CSN cut off part of his answer.

He was asked about the booing, and said I just have to find peace in my soul to play in this city.

He feels, somewhat fairly, that he's been scapegoated by the media and fans.

These guys are from Phoenix, who just saw their best player outside of Shane Doan leave them for a better hockey market. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

If Bryz was such a problem, you'd they would talk to Pronger about him, no?

The beginning of the quote was about him having a poor game and needing to play better. It was calm but self-effacing. But that makes him sound too sane and normal so lets just put out the one sentence at the end.

That's the scary side of Holmgren. I wouldn't be surprised if he traded 4 1st round picks plus JVR and Schen for Weber, and then again I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. The man has shown zero hesitation in doing whatever he had to do to get a player he thinks this team needs, whether it means overpaying in trade compensation or salary.

I hear ya, what I don't understand is Schenn's cap number. I thought since the Flyers put him in the AHL to start it lowered his cap hit, but on cap geek it still lists him at $3.1 million. I've mentioned this before, I like Schenn a lot, I only move Schenn if he is part of a trade to get Weber.

His cap hit is $1.7mm. But capgeek lists all the bonuses because there's no bonus cushion. You need to look at the daily values.
