You aren't a happy camper that these draft picks are evaporating like a puddle of water in the desert eh?
- PLindbergh31

two second round picks one for a younger guy that plays in the top 4 or 5 and the other for an experienced rental. Not a big deal IMO. I'll take a guy who has proven he can play in the NHL like Grossman over the chance that you take on a second round pick.

They could be like the eagles instead and stockpile so many picks that they can't even sign all of them.

I liked the Grossman trade. I'm hoping he plays well and is signed to a cap friendly contract, don't understand this Kubina trade at all.

Grossman is 27 and could easily be re-signed if he looks solid. Kubina cost a second and a fourth we got in other trades. Nash is just a rumor right now. A little early to call it panic mode - just shoring up the defense a little.

I understand the importance of depth through drafting but people act like a second round pick is gold.

- ukeman

chances of a 2nd rnd pick having a signif NHL career are ~ 1 in 6... 17%.

then again, Shea weber was a 2nd rnder...

Kubina is more of a "win now" move and I agree they probably don't have a chance at that. We'll see what else they do this week. The stories of them trying to get a third goalie have been circulating for awhile and I think might have something to them.

Who was the last D man that the Flyers drafted that actually played on the team more than 1 or 2 seasons? I can't even remember?

the only big deal that would make sense for me at this point would be something like JVR and bob for Bernier and whatever...want no part of Nash.

Well any other moves will involve current roster players going the other way. Flyers currently have less than 1m in cap space available, and are back at 50 contracts. At least Holmgren isn't likely to trade away any more draft picks.

At leasr I can say I saw this coming a couple days ago, although I thought it might be gill and kubina.... for Johnson... or Schenn... But I knew we were getting 2 defenseman...

My question is... What is going on with Columbus... are we really in on Nash.. Or is it Mason.... Is Bryz getting traded, or is Bob? WTF?

I understand it, don't necessarily agree with it. On the surface, it's not a horrible trade-basically gave up the same thing they did for Grossman for a guy who is a solid two way defenseman and has a really good point shot.

Using Bill's theory that even if Grossman is a rental the price paid was fair, the same applies to Kubina. The top six should now be solid. No MAB or Gus on a learning curve, no Lilja unless somebody's nicked up.

Short term it solidifies the team. Where I don't agree with it is, that the available LTIR space is pretty much gone now and neither guy added is really a difference maker.

Fair points. The second trade depletes more draft picks though, leaving the cupboard somewhat barren of second round picks.

And if the goaltending doesn't significantly improve these trades won't amount to a hill of beans.
