Bob is a career backup.

The Flyers need to continue to start Illya and just cross their fingers and hope he turns it around. Unless they are going to acquire a goalie, that is the only option they have.

- Flyers2821

Two years into his pro-career and you've deemed him Nitty 2.0?

Cmon man.

Yes, my opinion on Bob is that he is a career backup.

Timonen got a game misconduct?
- Flyers2821

Yes, and apparently he hurt his hip or leg.

If the Flyers are looking at this team as a team that is developing, Nash does make sense. You are putting together a one-two punch of Nash/Giroux for the next 6 years minimum. Pricy, absolutely. But if they are looking at the long term of this team, having Nash/Giroux for that long is a tremendous thing to continue to build from. Obviously, depends on what we are giving up.

I kind of feel like Columbus is coming to the Flyers offering Nash because they like our crop of young players. (Schenn, Couturier, JvR) They could EASILY be using the Flyers to drive the price up for Nash on the market.

I mean if you ship JvR+ out for Nash and you are sitting with Giroux, Nash, Schenn, Couturier, Read as your offensive core for the next 5+ years... your offense is in some really good shape.

From there, you are in a position to build up your defense adding to Coburn, Meszaros and possibly Kimmo if he is still around.

When it comes to acquiring a guy like Nash with a contract like he has, it isn't just about needs right this minute.

- Flyers2821

I think Nash's contract is really prohibitive.
They need to replace their #1 and #2 defenseman,
and they would have to give up 4 assets for Nash.
I don't think it makes sense for now or the future.

I thought Grossman looked pretty damn solid - especially in a raucous divisional game. The D still has a lot of work to do, but hopefully his presence will help steady things over the course of the next few weeks.

I agree they need to do that, but look at the Blackhawks. They have 4 guys making TONS of money and still had enough cash to pay their top 2 d-men and have them for years. Oh and they won a cup in the process.

It was a tough game for him to start on the FLyers, what with the bad goals, and then trying to cover Malkin who is a total load.
But yeh, I liked what I saw for the most.
He is as advertised, strong guy, not the best with the puck, but definitely adds some size to the back end.

I believe that's what negated Staal's boarding penalty.

I think they should start making the Flyers players stay in a hotel the night before a home game. Embarrassing home ice efforts.

What? A game misconduct doesn't negate a boarding call. He got a 2 minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which offset Staal's 2 minute boarding call. A game misconduct does not affect man advantage on the ice at all.

I think the Blackhawks were a 1 year, all in team, and then they had to bust it up.
After the Flyers they have the second weakest goalies for the play off bound teams.
They did get a cup, but I don't love where they are right now.

Right, good call. Plus that should easily have been 5 minutes. He better be suspended. If Rinaldo got 2 games, he better get at least that.

So goalies that are highly paid never struggle in a season? Ryan Miller is paid more than him but he's not exactly having a great year this year either. The amount of money you throw at the guy doesn't change the fact he's a human being able to underperform or struggle. This isn't some contractor you hired to Build a house. He had a bad game today whoop de do. You think Nabokov, Roloson, Mason (OMFG I can't believe I'm reading this one) and any of the others aren't going to come here and struggle? You think they ain't gonna have bad games? It's just a biproduct of pro-sports. Omg you're a Giants fan you can't tell me that team doesn't struggle and look like they belong in Pop warner at times then get it turned around.

If it was Bryzgalov or whoever we will have this issue. Even Tim Thomas has bad games etc. Right now Lundqvist is the only goalie to be having every game almost flawless. His team playing the way they do kind of helps too.

- JoeRussomanno

Actually that isn't true. Bryzgalov will make more money than Miller in every year remaining in Miller's contract, by a large margin 2 out of the 3 years. While the cap hit is lower on Bryz's contract it's due to dummy years. Miller's contract does not have any dummy years. Miller also, in all his year's as a starter, including this year, has never had a year as bad as Bryz is having. Buffalo has also had several very productive year's with Miller in net, Bryz has 0 productive years with the Flyers to date. It's like buying a new expensive car that is always in the shop. You can't say you got your money's worth out of it until/unless it eventually starts running better.

I agree that it's not going to matter who is in net until the 5 guys in front of the goalies start playing better but Bryz has not shown himself to be an elite goalie for the Flyers as of yet.

Kimmo did not get a game misconduct. He came back to be the one most responsible for the 4rth goal. In general, he seemed pretty frustrated out there today, numerous scraps, not his usual efficient self.

Seriously? This is what you're worried. My mistake but geez. The point is a bad call was made. Out of everything I typed out, this is what bothered you the most.

YOu know what I want? I want the guys they have to play sixty minutes of hockey no matter the opponent, no matter the game time. And then we'll see how the goalies do.

Todd Fedoruk @fridge29
Coming to Philly as a goalie is a like coming to a gun fight w bubblegum!! Do the hard thing!! Support the goalies you might b surprised.

- bodiva88

No question about it. Even as bad as Bryz was today the score was tied 3-3 heading into the 3rd period. The Flyers were in control of the game today for the most part and just didnt do a good job in the last period. Thats the frustrating part is if they would play solid 60mins of hockey win or lose I could be happy. Very hard to be happy and excited when you play a terrible third period and get dismantled on home ice like that. Its just one game and hopefully they can turn things around next game.

I wouldn't consider it period, that's too much. It's just being done to drive up the price to maximize the return they want.
