Yeah, he looked like a rookie on that play. He should have just knocked Datsyuk down. Great game.
- Predaceous

Not sure if he would have been able to knock Datsyuk down as he is pretty strong on his skates but i agree, Suter should have played the body not the puck.

Unless Hal Gill suddenly learns how to skate, this is a slam dunk for the Habs. They get a 2nd round pick (probably 50-55th overall) & two good prospects for a way-past-his-prime stay @ home d'man who is a liability at 5 on 5. I'm glad that the Preds just got weaker in the long run.
- All Blues

Two good prospects? I'll listen to the argument that Geoffrion is a good prospect. Debatable, but for the sake of argument let's call him a good prospect. Slaney, on the other hand is not not a good prospect. He's 23 and got a good look in Toronto (AHL) in 2009-2010, and since then has been, with the exception of 9 games a year, stuck in the ECHL. He has 2 points in the AHL over the last 2 years. Not what I'd call a good prospect. Seems the odds are against him ever being a fixture in the AHL, and the NHL seems like an impossibility.

I was thinking the same thing. That would have been a wise penalty to take.

Suter keeps making himself look worse each game. He should just shut up and play hockey and leave the front office moves to Poile. Maybe he can keep up his stellar play of late so the Preds can afford to pay him the insane amount of money he wants. I'm moving closer after every game to saying screw it and trade him for a top 6 forward and roll with Weber, Klein, Gill, Boullion, Ellis, and whoever else can earn the 6th spot.

Rinne was stellar once again, but left out to dry by his "star" defenceman at the end of the game.

At this rate you can have him. I'd rather the Preds focus on resigning Weber. Not having Suter's huge contract would allow this team a LOT of room to sign other players.

i like the Hal Gill move
they are tying to show Suter/Weber that they are committed to winning

I dont have them as a serious contender though, to thin up front. Though I like Rinne's chance at stealing a game or two in a series.

Finishing chances has been a problem for this team for a long time.

Props to the Preds. still a dangerous team and it seems like Poile knows he has to spend and is going to. I felt the Preds have been stronger then people give them credit for a while now.

I know they don't have any real star power up front, but they are 10th in goals for. So they are scoring, in spite of not having any top end snipers.

I'm not sure Poile is done dealing.

I see this more as 2 different trades (there is a 5th round pick coming back to Nashville). So really it was Gill for a 2nd rounder and Geoffreon and Slaney for a 5th. Overall I think it was pretty fair. Boomer's days in Nashville were done. He was not going to get back to the big club unless someone got injured. I see this as a classy move on Poile's part by trading him to Montreal (where his family has so much history) rather than holding on to him and letting him rot in the minors.

Per Pierre Lebrun, Preds did not want to include Geoffrion at all, but had no choice.

Funny how Preds fans make him out to be a throw in to excuse the bad trade.

It was a steal of a trade for the Habs, but I get why the Preds did it.

I don't think it's a bad trade. I hate losing Geoffrion. He's a source of local pride, and a pretty damn good player despite what others hear have said. However, Gill has the potential to do something that Geoffrion could never do, and that's to get the Preds past the second round and convince Suter and Weber to stay. If that's the way it turns out then the trade is a good one for the Preds. If the Preds tank in the first round like they did when they traded for Forsberg then it's a horrible trade. I don't think anyone has any illusions about Gill being on this team past July 1.

I like him...he's tough and he's going to the front of the net in Hornqvist's absence...and he doesn't take crap from anybody.
Only problem is he doesn't show up on the scoresheet as often as I would like, but he's not making huge mistakes and costing us games either.

Damn glad to have him in Gold and Blue...thanks for waiving him..

Last night solidified my liking for him. He's a big body up front. He retaliates better than Hornqvist does (which, to his defense is not at all). He is in the right places, but I think he's leaning on the stick a bit. Overall, he will fit in nicely when we don't renew Smithson's contract.

Pierre Lebrun, really?? Geoffrion couldn't crack our line-up. He might evolve over time into a decent player. Best of luck to him.

Leggy gave up on the play. If he would have kept going he had a chance to stop
Him from shooting

Suter had no clue where Datsyuk was going on that one...hell of a shot to score too.

Personally, I think the Preds front office gave up on Geoffreon. He didn't produce in his games with the Preds this year and he didn't produce in Milwaukee either.

In 20 games in Milwaukee he had 2 goals and 7 assists. This is suppose to be an NHL caliber center? He can't produce in the AHL what would make a person think he is going to produce consistently in the NHL?

There are a lot of people saying the Preds paid too much for Gill. You see what Boomer has done with the Preds this season and with Milwaukee, (which is very little) and Slaney can't even make the Admirals team. In essence they gave up a 2nd rounder in my opinion.

Welcome to Nashville Gill. I say pair him up with Ellis and sit Hillen.

I wasn't ready to give up on Boomer. I think he would have made it back next season. If he had to be traded, I am glad that it was to Montreal. I just hope he can thrive under that pressure and spotlight. I do feel like we overpaid for a Rental. To me, with that many assets, AK should have also been included.
