I really would like to keep Regehr.
It's been so long since Buffalo has had a D man like him, but I do completely understand your point.

- kingcong39

I like Regehr too. I still think it was a good move to get him. But he only has one more year and a rebuild from this mess will take longer.

He's not awesome but to say he sucks is off the mark. You will never pay top dollar to go watch Hal Gill play hockey, but if he is in your bottom pairing, your defense corp is pretty good.
- Gunner Staal

He's a good stop gap if you lost a guy or two in free agency. He's big and tough and experienced. If your a legitimate cup contender you don't want him.

All these guys being moved are UFA's at seasons end.

I now think Leopold lands a 1st and marginal prospect.

or a 2nd, 5th, and top tier prospect.

On top of all that, his salary for next year is only $3M.

I think McNabb can be a younger, cheaper, better version of Regehr. He proved he can play in the NHL now. I would like to keep Robin simply because it looks kind of bush league to get a guy to waive to come to your team and then dump him at the deadline, but if we can get a 1st for him I say do it.

Those guys are top 3 d-men.

Gill is a bottom 2 now.

That is a stupid ransom to pay.

Nashville is the Atlanta of 06/07.

- dadeadhead

Is Hal a UFA next year? Nashville is going to lose one of their big two d-men. I'm not saying Hal replaces them, but maybe that is part of their thinking for next year.

Yes but I would rather have the players that came back in the deal, than those defensemen. For whatever reason ANA and DAL valued those guys super high and paid a premium. Personally I didn't think too highly of either Whitney or Goligoski.

Good point - but to trade him he would need to waive it again. If he does, that would mean that Regehr is happy to be leaving.

Hal is so slow, the guy can not skate I don't get what Nash was thinking.. If I was a GM i would much rather go after Leo then Gill

Hard to say not if a 1st is being offered.

It would be really nice to have both Robyn and McNabb on the same D corp and then trade Robyn next year when he is a pending UFA.

I'm not disagreeing with you.

Just pointing out there is a good reason to pay a premium for those to over Gill.

Living within the cap floor budget that they have, I think they would rather spend the $3M Leopold is slated to make next year on their two D men.

Not to mention no player that has a NTC/NMC will waive to come here ever again.

I see your point but to even ask a guy who uprooted his family to come to 'Hockey heaven' to waive looks kind of bush to me. I don't know. That said if it's for a first, ask him to waive all day.

I know.. Leo wont over power or nail some one but he plays good simple d and moves the puck well and not many players will blow by Leo unlike gill

I personally never felt like Gill was some kind of turnstile. Can and did he get beat? Of course, but I don' t think it was some kind of regularity. He is awesome on the PK.
