Canadiens acquire B. Geoffrion, R. Slaney, and 2nd round draft pick in 2012 from NSH for H. Gill and a conditional 5th round pick in 2013

that's a who cares deal though
- Homer

Not at all. It help sets the market.

If Gill gets 2 prospects and a 2nd rounder, then Darcy should be wheeling and dealing right now.

Nash got ripped off on that one.

The price is always high for defensemen at the trade deadline. It is a seller's market.

Very few teams are really "out of it" and have players to move.

The Sabres should be actively shopping Regehr, Leopold and Sekera.

I don't think it's equivalent. Semin is a LW (not what we need) and has had several terrible playoffs already in his career. Further, he's a UFA at the end of this season.

I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him in the market, but I would never trade for him.

- lacaprup

I think it was a reasonable example because Yashin did nothing in the playoffs for Ottawa prior to getting traded.
I vividly remember Buffalo sweeps of Ottawa where he was terrible in those series.

i think its more why didnt we get rid of that guy than why didnt we get that guy mentality this year
- Homer

thats what we should be saying but if Gil is worth that much then we need to look to move Leo, sekera and/or grags..

Given my choice, I'll take NA any day.

but...

Malkin is a red anomaly; I'd take him.
Teemu is one of my favorite players of all time.
Zetts is an awesome player

and that pretty much sums it up.

I was being sarcastic.

Exactly - hence, the Sabres should be selling.

This is why it is so bad for the Sabres to still have Darcy - that fool is going to miss this window of opportunity.

Bergeron and Krejci are both home grown. Are they technically "#1 centers"? I dont know, but their top two centers were home grown.
- Gunner Staal

I think you and I talked about this before the season started. we can debate Boston, but the others are in line with that point. We don't have one, we won't be winning a cup anytime soon.

Hall Gill sucks. He's a human phone booth. He cost Montreal that game 7 by himself.

I see what your saying though. Everyone else making moves, not us.

I'm past blaming Regier. If you knowingly leave an incompetent person in charge its to be expected, TERRY!

- Buffalo--Sabres

He's not awesome but to say he sucks is off the mark. You will never pay top dollar to go watch Hal Gill play hockey, but if he is in your bottom pairing, your defense corp is pretty good.

Tha is stupid high though. Geoffrion is going to be good and they got a 2nd player along with a 2nd rd pick to boot.

For a 5/6 d-man.

I really would like to keep Regehr.
It's been so long since Buffalo has had a D man like him, but I do completely understand your point.

If the market is overvaluing talent, it seems like the right market for Buffalo. We love over-valuing our talent.

D men always go for super inflated prices this time of year, look at the Goligoski/Ryan Whitney deals.

All these guys being moved are UFA's at seasons end.

I now think Leopold lands a 1st and marginal prospect.

or a 2nd, 5th, and top tier prospect.

But was he a UFA at the time? Also, we all know the Sabres cannot trade for a Russian as long as Lindy Ruff is the coach.

Kozlov, Kalinin, Afinogenov

There isn't a Russian in the NHL that would willingly come here IMO. That will lead to huge problems if the Sabres draft Grigorenko or Yakupov.

Agreed. Let's move Regehr, Leopold and Sekera while these ridiculous prices continue.

And we can't wait until the zero hour - the desperation to acquire talent is now!

Gill is a bottom 2 now.

That is a stupid ransom to pay.
