we locked him up for a long term contract so we didn't lose him like ottawa lost chara.

pronger went far with the blues, but they had an older team and he was a younger guy, they chose to trade him, that was their choice.

- FIREonICE

He's 6-7 years younger than our core. The Sabres will be ancient, IF he even gets to the point where he's considered a "chara/pronger"

Right. He may be great one day, but it won't be with the Sabres. Sell High, win now.

Did St. Louis win after trading Pronger? Or the Islanders after they traded Chara?

No. So what exactly is your point?

How could you possibly know he won't be great with the Sabres, even next year, and in the future?
- kingcong39

Based on what we know of guys with massive bodies like that, it will be 5 more seasons before Myers dominates the game. You can, however, sell him at a massively high price right now.

so Pronger was a bust too because the Blues didnt win the cup with him?
- Homer

On that note, how many did Gretsky win w/ LA & NYR?

I like how you know it's going to take 9 years.
Good one.

I don't think he's calling Pringer a bust, and I'm not calling a Chara a bust; however, it takes the better part of a DECADE for guys of this body type to become what you want them to be. If you're Detroit you can sit and wait. If you're Buffalo and you desperatly need a real center....
- lacaprup

I don't think many people have a problem understanding those that would trade Myers for someone like Getzlaf.

For me, it would be a 50-50 deal on whether or not to pull the trigger on that one, mainly due to the issues Homer has brought up multiple times about Getzlaf.

Well if it takes a decade then yes, but we dont know that either. Myers could be a stud in 3 years..less even. And who's to say there is a real center out there that we can even get for Myers?

there is no gaurantee we win anything if you move him either, just like there is no gaurentee we dont if we keep him. Impossible to know.
- Homer

Right! what is the probability that he will be a genrational talent? Very Low.

St. Louis waited too long.

The Isles got Alexi Yashin for Chara. Yashin flamed out, but he was suppossed to be amazing. I'm not going to blame the Isles for Yashin flaming out. If the Sabres traded Myers for someone as touted as Pat kane or Rick Nash and they came to Buffalo and flamed out, I would blame the theory behind the trade.

It's a difference of opinion and reading talent and desire.

I am sure there are G.M.'s that would agree with me and some that would agree with you.
That's why it's not nearly as easy as you sometimes say it is to build a cup winner.

I'll play along. What centers in the league would you be willing to trade Myers for?

No one on the team should be untouchable, but I lean toward keeping Myers and actually allowing someone competent to coach him.

An equivalent trade on the Buffalo end would be trading Myers for Semin.

Is that a slam dunk move?

I posted this last night because I thought it was very fitting of the theme. I'm not a huge Eminem or Rap fan but this song is good. I'm working on my own version about the Sabres.

I'm tired of not winninG the Stanley Cup.
I'm tired of Lindy Ruff.
I'm tired of my team playing like they don't give a f===.
I'm tired of Ryan Miller.
I'm tired of the other team winning the overtime thriller.
I'm tired of being embarrassed to wear my Sabres jersey.
I'm tired of losing to New Jersey.
I'm tired of listening to the whiner line
I'm tired of it not being "Our Time".
I'm tired of still talking about Briere.
I'm tired of Darcy Regeir
I'm tired of watching Bruins fans smile ear to ear.

We probably wont, but I bet we get a center that makes Vanek and Pommer better. There is a timeline that our good players have with this team.

We never sell high. They should have resigned and traded Stafford last year. He had a Chris Angel type season last year. A total illusion. 30+ goals of which something like 70% were scored in 8 games. They have seen this kid not try hard his entire career. He was the perfect example of a guy they could have traded for maybe a fringe #1 center. He's worth a bag of pucks now.

Exactly.
I can almost see it now.
Darcy pulls the trigger and trades Myers for Getzlaf.

In Ryan's first year here, he produces exactly as he is now, looks loafish on the ice, sometimes disinterested, and everybody crushes Darcy for making a stupid move.

Two problems:

I don't think there is a member of the Sabres organization that will trade him.
Shortage of available, talented centers they would move him for.

I don't think Stafford was ever bringing back something like that.
The best return I am guessing would have been a young center with potential, and we all know how much people love that word around here.

I think that if you waived Myers out there as trade bait, I think a few teams would come knocking on the door.
