Heres a good question....for the Gerbe lovers....

If Washington wanted to trade Semin straight up for Gerbe "because we LOVE his effort and Semin is lazy"

your reply would be?

The entire team has sucked this year-
We are 26th in the league in scoring.

Do you replace a piston because your tires are flat?

Do you fix the roof because your hot water tank doesn't work?

It's tough to soar with eagles when you play with so many turkeys.

We need change. But I'd rather see a surgeon than a lumberjack when it comes time for surgery on this team.

Two months ago I would have agreed. Now It's time to start swinging the axe.

I honestly would trade any player on this team to get Getzlaf. He is exactly what we don't have. A big play making center. He's only 26 too. It seems like he's been around a long time but he's still young.

so all the things I said I have learned about him dont matter to you huh? Ok. I kinda thought the same thing as you did, then got laughed out when I said id trade Myers for him by an NHL scout.

my god Mair. Does he still play somewhere? Last I heard he was with the Devils
- JVince117

I think he's gone.

He's my poster child for effort. He worked his ass off. Even scored goals with his ass. Full effort, every shift, every night. And for a while people were saying similar things. They would rather have Mair on the third line than Stafford (or insert your own mediocre forward.) But for all that effort, there was very little results. Gerbe is turning into that for me. He tries really, really hard and it's easy to get behind that kind of hard work. But that all out effort make people blind to the results of his play. He often makes terrible passes. He often receives passes and can't handle them. He often hangs on too long and tries to do too much and coughs up the puck. But he does it all with heart, so it's Ok.

If Gerbe can't work his way up to being a top 6 forward and can't put up the numbers to match, then I don't see how we have a place for him.

And BTW - I'm a big fan of hard work and heart. We need more of that, not less. But watch him play. Really study him. He stifles offensive play a lot, especially in transition. Or he'll battle his ass off along the boards, come up with the puck, and one of those bonehead passes comes next, instead of a smart pass or making the easy play. Watch him specifically. I promise you will see it.

Interesting you are using Semin in that trade.

Nobody with a brain wants Semin.
That guy barely tries and would be another locker room cancer.
It has nothing to do with Gerbe leaving the team.
It has everything to do with Semin being almost a turkey himself.

Come on Purple thats not what I meant. You know it. I didn't say get rid of anyone.
We can love effort all we want, but if it isn't translated into production, whats teh point?

Not singling you out; just a general response-
We need to move some players but I'd rather do it carefully and not lose good talent for the sake of change.

Getzlaf is lazy, out of shape, feels entitled, not a great teammate and has an issue with the bottle.

I'll take a guys word for it that looks into these things for a living.

The Rangers lead the NHL in fighting majors. I believe they are playing the Bruins style to a T.

Tough, in your face, will fight you, balanced lines, great goaltending.

maybe not because Boston and Pitt have a great shot too, esp if 87 comes back. But they have as good a chance as anyone in the East.

Most Likely 2012-2013 Sabres Starting Group:

Vanek - Carter - Pommer
Leino - Galchenyuk - Stafford (Maybe Parise)
Kassian - Ennis - Adam/Stafford
Gerbe - McCormick - Kaleta

Myers - Ehrhoff
Regehr - McNabb
Brennan - Grags

I hope they go after Konopka for the 4th line.

The entire team sucks at passing. Whether they're the one making the pass, or the one receiving it. Half the time it looks like they're just throwing it at each other instead of actually trying to pass it to the other guy. They just whip it at each other in hopes the guy manages to pull it in once in a while.

Fighting majors aren't necessarily the best indicator, especially in this day and age when more than half of them are staged. You don't see the Rangers doing things like Lucic into Miller, or insert-the-latest-Brad-Marchand-incident here. There's a reason why they kept playing musical roster spots with Sean Avery. I'm not saying they're not a tough team, but the Rangers, unlike Boston, can also play a skill game when they have to. If you match them physically, or even exhibit that their physical game doesn't bother you, they can and will put the puck in the net. It's why they have the likes of Marion Gaborik and Brad Richards. If you do that to Boston, they start a parade to the penalty box because they get frustrated with it. Detroit, Vancouver, Buffalo, and others have all shown it this year. The way to beat Boston is to be like that kid on the playground that's no fun to fight, not because he'll beat you up, but because he'll always get up for more, and never admit that you beat him, no matter how bloody his face is. That tactic doesn't work against the Rangers, because they also have more of a skill side to their game as well.

You knows what's maddening? When they went on that 5-0-1 stretch the past couple weeks they were making exceptionally good passes. It was like watching a different team. They have the ability to do it, but for what ever reason they just don't most of the time.

They deserve it with the path they have taken the last 2-3 years, developing their own talent.
Look at their young forwards and especially their young D.

They simply augmented with the big money spent on Richards.

They built a team the way you should.
