I would rather keep the draft picks rather than "going for it" this year. In my mind that is one of the reasons the Flyers never get over the hump, other than a Cinderella run a few years ago (and it was a cinderella run). The Flyers have no patience. The Phantoms are barren because the flyers are always trading for help this year. Screw next year. Next year we'll have a whole new set of draft picks to trade. The Carter and Richards trades were great because they were youth for youth. The Grossman trade while it looks good on the surface is horrible if he doesn't resign. He's young but if you only have him for 20 or so games it's horrible. If one of those draft picks would've turned into a servicable 3rd pairing defenseman who stayed with the Flyers for 5-10 years, you lose big time because next year, you will need another defenseman, next year you trade more high draft picks for a depth defenseman and you end up paying 10-20 picks over the next 10 years trying to fill the same spot at the bottom of the roster.

Nashville, because it is in a different spot with it's trade. Yea Gill is a rental but they have saved picks over the years. They have depth in the system. When you have depth you can make the occasional trade for the UFA. They've never had to spend 4 1st round picks on a defenseman because they develop their own. Now this year the Flyers are without their 4 1st round picks and without that over 35 defenseman. Swing for the fences every year is not the best strategy, although it can be exciting.

I did finally get around to reading what's going on with Grossman in practice and you are in fact correct.

Timoen-Coburn
Grossman-Meszaros
Carle-Burdon

Not mad but Carle is the guy I'd like to see an upgrade next to. I'm not really understanding why Lilja isn't getting in more games. The last few he has gotten into, I didn't think he looked bad. Plus Burdon's play hasn't been great. Not bad but not nearly as exciting or promising as he was when he first got the call up. I feel Burdon could only benefit from a break.

Thoughts....

* Speaking of the Preds, none other than everyone's favorite man crush Ryan Suter was absolutely burnt to a crisp by Mr. Datsyuk on the game winning goal tonight. He's certainly not the first to suffer that fate, but he sure as hell didn't look like a 6 million dollar man on that play. He's gonna have to watch the replay to find Datsyuk. What a move.

Datsyuk is not really human.
5 seconds left and he pulls that, whoa.
