Great! One less potential mine for Holmer to put his foot on as he crosses the DMZ between today and the TDL!

The Grossman deal works for me. If they can get a guy like Allen for a fair price and maybe pick up a guy like Gaustad, without losing much from the roster I'd be just peachy. I'm not interested in JVR for Schenn. That deal isn't necessary this season.

could help in the playoffs if our energy guys gets hurt

Yes, so could Harry Z and Holmstrom. They have good forward depth for the 3rd/4th lines.

His dad (Dan) played a season with the Habs, and his great grandfather is the Hab legend Howey Morenz. Talk about keeping it in the family.

Crap like that is why I run my gums here and B/R. This place has some freedom in the posting but even when I think we need more I click on those websites scroll down and read that ignorance. I just read over there. Used to do same here but you guys all sucked me in. Good group here, we don't always all agree here but the conversation is much higher than a 6th grade level. that and the man's blog whom we speak under is A1

I think its a good deal for both teams Habs got a 2nd and Geoffrion for Gill not bad... Nashville just got tougher to score on Weber Suter Gill, Rinne...yikes

The Gill trade makes Homer look good IMHO. I would happily give up a 3rd for Geoffrion and Grossman > Gill because of his age.

Wow. Seems like Montreal did very well in this trade. If Geoffrion turns out to be a regular in their lineup, with a # 2 pick for 25 games + playoffs of Hal Gill?

Poile appears to be taken to the woodshed on this deal.

At least with Grossman he's younger, and he has a chance to stick after this year, Gill is strictly a rental it would appear.

They both do similar things, although Gill is bigger while Grossman is a bit more mobile as the former is a tree.

Geoffrion could develop into a solid 2nd or 3rd line player.

Geoffrion's not a lock to be a top line guy by any means, though. He's shown flashes, but the opinion on him is not set in stone.

If he turns out to be a top 6 player it's a disaster, if he's just a solid 3rd line guy who pots 15 a year, it's still a bad trade for Nashville imo.

And Geoffrion has been in Trotz dog house most of the season.

By the way, I would try the following defensive pairs:

Timonen // Coburn
Carle // Grossman
Meszaros // Gustafsson

just turned 24..... 65 AHL games under his belt 13 goals 33 assist and 42 NHL games with 6 goals and 5 assists. In addition, 12 NHL playoff games 0-2-2

Agreed, which is why I love this deal for the Habs, although understand why Nashville pulled the trigger.

I wonder if Josi or Ellis will have to sit now though.

I agree. It appears Grossman will be paired with Meszaros, and MAB will stay in the lineup instead of Gus based on practice. It can certainly change though.

No offense to MAB as he's done a nice job for us, but I would prefer Gustafsson in the lineup.

Does Gill make Nashville a threat to Detroit, St. Louis, Vancouver, SJ? I think if Rinne plays out of his mind they are a threat, but they would be without Hal Gill.

I agree that MAB is ahead of Gusty at this point.
At least the coaches seem to think so.

Carle and Bourdon look ok most of the time, but in tight games they could limit Bourdon's minutes some and play Carle with Mez.

They need another scorer I think.

He provides them with quality depth and experience.

I think it is a very solid move for the Preds.

I would think in the Preds locker room it is a moral booster.

I guess the thinking is MAB adds a little more grit and sandpaper than Gus.
