I just can't see Darcy having it in him to aquire any superstar player. - sabresfandan
ITS NOT ABOUT GUTS! Its about making smart decisions. Do you add a piece to make a run at the cup, do you purge worthless players, do you try and make a deal to land a big name? Its logistics, not who can sack up and say yes to a deal that gives you a big name player if your going to sell the barn.
Cool, Nash is on the block. Gee I sure hope Darcy has the guts to pull the trigger and get him even if its going to put us back 3 years. Oh well at least I can go out and buy my jersey now.
This deadline wont hinge on landing a big name. Its about rebuilding and loading back up for the future. Not make a big splash at the expense of the team.
Sure, look for options to get a number one winger or center a "superstar" but don't be dumb. This has nothing to do with courage or whatever people keep harping about with darcy. You dont get a GM position because your a maverick or some gun slinger trying to get the number one guy. Your calculating, smart, and look for the best possible options. |

Leino and Staff have bad contracts....I'm not so sure Miller does. It's not great cause he hasnt beem great I'll give you that, but Kane is not who you want back for your Goalie....IMO - Homer
Even if Miller was playing great, I just don't think you pay a goalie that much. It's just not worth it.
Just look at the top paid goalies in the league; Miller, Luongo, Lundqvist, Bryz, Backstrom, Kipper, Ward. With the exception of Ward, none of these guys have won a cup and it's not like the Canes are benefitting from having Ward on the team now. I just think the money can be spent better elsewhere. Maybe not for Kane but, If I were the Sabres, I'd explore moving Miller.
But then again, I'd also move Vanek |

Former 2nd overall Jimmy Carson was coming off a 107 pt season.
Gelinas was just taken 7th overall
3 1st rd picks
and yes 15 mil. - dadeadhead
That was a year where you needed 168 to lead the league though...points where a lot easier to come by. But I guess its all relative.
Had 100 points the next year then never got over 70 again.
I'm not sure what my point is, just spewing stats |

What do you mean is this day in age? Every team making a run is trying up considerable amounts of money in their goaltending department. - HotSauceBlueChs

Lundqvist is worth every penny.......Ward goes have a Cup. IDK, there are different ways to go about it and still get to the same point. You can argue both sides. |

Sometimes you have to be willing to take a chance on a trade, you cannot win every trade that is the risk involved in trading and Darcy does not do that.

I agree that Lundqvist is the best in the league. I still wouldn't pay a goalie over 6. That's just me |

Example:
Philly this summer, great moves getting rid of Carter & Richards =Cancer
Adding young prospects for the future, great moves.
*Darcy, it's called vision!

Ward wasn't making big money when he won the cup.
When you look at all the goalies that have won the cup post lockout, it just shows that tying up a ton of money in your goaltending isn't worth it. |

I just want
1 Darcy gone
2 Galenychuk with our #1 pick
3 a nice summer by the pool drinking beer
watching the Sabres right now is like watching someone beat a dog, you hope the dog has the energy to bite the guy but you know in the end the dog is toast

Yep and the only one worth it is Lundqvist IMO.
You don't need a high priced goalie to win a cup.
You do need to be strong down the middle and great defensively though. |

Its also called having 3 great centers 2 from tanking pervious years and ending up with great draft positions. We have no pieces to make moves like that.
