Another player off my wish list gone.

Grossman to Philly for a second round pick in 2012, and third rounder in 2013.

The bar has been set and it is very high.

- Al

So if Grossman is worth a 2nd and a 3rd, what is Kubina worth?

Ed Snyder and Paul Holmgren belly up to the bar and pull out their wallets when they want or need something. Ya the cost his high but the Flyers want to win.

Bowman would never do that deal because he's worried about setting precedent.

So that leaves Bryan Allen, Kubina, Oduya, Gill, Spacek. Bowman isn't going to get away cheap.

That line comes in handy in so many situations at work, it seems.

I said months ago they need 2 defenceman to reduce the minutes of Keith, Seabrook and Leddy. If the trade market is stupid, Lepisto can play 12- 14 minutes and be effective IMO.

What's needed is a guy with some size who can kill penalties, hit some people and log enough minutes to even out the top guys ice time. Kubina would work well I think, except it was him who scrambled Bolland's brains last year.

Kubina could be a nice fit

Not this regime. He had a stint here for a very short time.

Didn't mean to imply that it was--I believe that would be on Tallon.

(2nd and a prospect) or (2nd and a player) or (player and a prosect and a third.) Who the hell knows.

A mule can carry the team on his back like he did last year.
- hawksbuzz

the past is for loosers and crawford does not resemble anything from his play last year
they should anchor his ass in the crease so he cant slide completely out of it leaving a wide open net.
crawford is not the answer

This is where Scotty Bowman earns his money. Leverage the relationship with Yzerman and they get Kubina.

Crossing fingers.

My feeling is if they cannot lock Kubina up in a deal first, none of the other trades they have in mind will matter.

White is playing with the the second best defensemen of ALL TIME behind Orr.

Once again prime example of hindsight I didnt hear anyone calling for White in the offseason we all wanted some snarl and toughness. Thats what he tried to get in Montador.

Whites having a career year it must be that magic dust detroit feeds their once down and out players who go there and have career years.

- mvp0207

Nobody was calling for White because all the time was spent calling for Bryan Campbell's dismissal. Bowman and others knew he was out there, he had a plan to replace Campbell and he chose Montador.

Setting what precedent, that he's showing people how to flush a season right down the toilet?

Damn. I would have given a 2nd & 3rd for Grossman in a heartbeat....hell, I would have given a 2nd and Lalonde, or a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. He is exactly the kind of guy this team needs.

Dallas may have been more reluctant to deal him to another west team though.

Not going to trade Kane within the Conference to a playoff competitor, and not for an unproven goalie, although supposed to be good.

If they want to trade Kane they can get more in the summer.

So now Bowman did not set the precedent - the Flyers did. Now GMs know what pricing looks like.

I would rather have Kubina over Grossman anyway.

He replaced finesse with grit. Make up my mind which one do we want again. I thought most wanted more grit on the back end.

White is having a career year before this he was bounced around and disregarded by many. People were giving him away for nothing. This is Hindsight Rick. Every GM is saying why the hell didnt we sign White. Im not gonna blame a GM for a player who is having a good year.

We can joke about this or be ticked off but Bowman really has a loaded gun to his head right now.

And if he doesn't pull this team out of their death spiral, somebody should pull the trigger on April 7.

As long as Yzerman wants picks and prospects over NHL ready players, the Hawks stand a very good chance of getting Kubina.

I don't disagree with you re. hindsight in this case--this is indeed White's best year in his career. My problem with Montador at the time seemed to be that Bowman overpaid with the contract, in addition to thinking that somehow one offseason devoted to improving Scott's skating is going to make him into an actual NHL player. And it's also easy to point out that Lepisto has not really been given a chance at all. I think that's undeniable--but likely that is on Quenville.

Edit: And to my original comment, it still irks me to watch him play (I know, hindsight) like he is for the Wings when he was there for the taking. And, you're also right that Bowman went for Montador for the supposed "grit."

Well, I guess that wasn't the strategy at 1901 W. Madison when Grossman went to Philly. Is Kubina that much better?

I doubt it. We don't know what he has the authorization from Wirtz to spend yet. I think we will find out in the next 48 hours.

I hate to say this for your sake but I highly doubt bowman gets axed regardless of what happens in the offseason. I just dont see it happening.
