If Pa is not going to sign a contract he should be traded too. |

Put it this way....this team i likely going to need a Goring type acquisition in order to make the playoffs this year....someone who puts them on his back and leads them through...which probably isn't going to happen. It needs a PREMIER defensman, at both ends of the ice. It also could use a fully developed Niederreiter or Okposo...i.e., someone who can pot them at the rate Tavares can dish them. I can see the latter coming from within (probably Nino), but the former....that will probably require a deal. What that deal will be, or when, I don't know for sure- I just know that Snow is going to have to stop being so adamant about not trading ANY of the prospects, and go out and get us what we need, sooner rather than later.
Nabokov can get it done, but it won't happen this year, and he probably should be gone by the deadline...his play has at least earned us a decent return for him, IMHO....better than Wishart, anyway. As for Parenteau, signing him depends on the number, IMHO- I can't see paying him stupid money, but at a decent number....maybe a little more than Nielsen....I'll keep him. He may be a chip we can use down the road, as part of that deal for the d-man, especially if he can play at this rate next year. I'd also (I know, flame away) keep Pandolfo...like him or not, he's an excellent penalty killer, and yes you NEED those on the team (with 4th line ice time, he's not hurting anything). Reasoner can go, but we need SOMEONE to replace him in the face off circle. The other guy...well, obviously, he's done, so buh-bye....maybe we can convince someone to give us a 6th round pick for him at the deadline, if there's someone stupid out there (one can only hope).
Anyway, that's how I see it. We have moved forward this year....but not quite enough yet. To me, THIS off season is a big one for all involved. It WILL be time to part with some of the management of this team if we don't get into the dance next year, IMO. Enough pieces are in place now that some adjustments should get us where we need to be next year, and it's time to sh*t or get off the dumper, as the saying goes... - dcb1
Snow is a bit obsessed with his "keeping the prospects" nonsense. While I agree to an extent with that thought process, you need to give in order to get. If you want secondary scoring, you will need to possibly give up a prospect and a draft pick, but things like that don’t get through Snows head. If you have to dangle deHaan’s name (for example) around to get someone in here with legitimate NHL experience and could potentially make a difference on this team, then you make the deal. Snow is so damn thick skulled that trading deHaan type prospects is like a cardinal sin. |

I'm very wary of this "Positive Kasper" that's been posting here recently. I'm convinced that aliens have kidnapped the real Kasper and replaced him with a clone. Either that or Wang's charisma has had a lasting effect after the Dunkin' Donuts morning rendezvous. - UIF
I am one of DP's Angels now. A special breed of DP fans. Life comes to a complete circle. Life is great!! Just kidding I just see vast improvement from this team and as long as Nabby is in there then I feel confident enough. Plud no DP around makes the heart feel so much better. AS soon as he pops up againt eh old Kasper comes out and rips into everyone |

I agree with this. Trade while his value is high. Hey if we are falling out trade Nabby, PA, Maybe STreit a prosepct a pick and get us players who actually know what the NHL is about. No more draft picks no more guys who need a change of scenery no mare failed number one picks. PLAYERS!!!!!!! |

In the long run I think his obession will be to our benefit. This has always been the issue in the past. We always trade those prospects for a band aid. I love Snow for not trading a prospect for an Old Veteran. I think if someone offered a young guy signed long term he would entertain the offer... It is frustrating for now.. but in long term right move. (Quebec is going to have one hell of a team). |

That's not all luck. That's having a great scouting system. Look where Philly took mike Richards and Jeff carter when the drafted. I believe they were late 1st round. - Spartiarti
Zetterberg was taken 220-something in the draft....Datsuyk very late as well.
It does happen all the time. |

LeBrun says Jack Johnson is available. He would be a good Islander. It would take a top 6 forward though. I'm sure PA isn't the guy seeing he isn't under contract next year so who would you give up if anything? |

I just dont find him to be that good a player... Yes he has talent.. but he's big & soft.. dont we have that in spades? What it would cost to get him from LA & what he would do for this team just doesnt add up.

Yea I watch the Kings a lot. I think he would help us and give us some offense from the blue line that we are lacking but the price we would have to give up for him and what we would have to pay him probably make it not worth it. |

How about Okpuso or Grabner for Johnson? Throw in a #2 pick to get it done... |

I'm not sure in the end that Johnson is worth that much. Think Mark Streit but just a better skater and puck mover. Otherwise, his defensive game isn't much to get excited about. |

Not that money is ever an issue with the Islanders but he's easily overpaid for what he gives. I'd rather save picks/prospects/players for someone else. |

I think you are on track with Grabner and Okposo as a fair value but I'm afraid it might not be worth it in the end. |

We had a pretty shtty draft in 2006. Okposo there is still hope.. and Andy Mac is a nice surprise.. bust the other pics are terrible. We had 13 picks in that draft and 2 are on the team... is that as bad as I think?
Joensuu, Figren, Rhett, Weslosky, Marcinko, Rogers, Sims, Johanson, Day and Ridderwall are others from that draft. - niteislander
Wasn't that Neil Smith's draft? |

I have a question for you, why don't Islanders go after Komisarek? I know he hasn't had a great year but he would be cheap since he doesn't play much for Toronto. I think he is better than Staios or Eaton. |

He has been a healthy scratch on a team that is 3rd to last in goal against in the East. Scares me a little. He would definitely be more physical than Staios or Eaton that is for sure. It could happen. As of right now only Streit, Hamonic and AMac are under contract for next year. |

Komisarek is not a bad option, but his health is more questionable now as opposed to his production vs. salary. |

I honestly don't know. I think Grabner or KO would be an overpayment just based on their salaries. Johnson as someone else said is a big body who plays soft. Paging Ty Wishart.......... |
