Well yeah, missing the playoffs 8 straight years is a bit much. It's a better League when Toronto is good.
- PLindbergh31

I can't disagree with his statement. What I'm saying though is, Ron Wilson is lucky to have his job still.

Gusty has more potential than any other d-man in the system. Pairing him with Timonen would make sense.
- jak521

That is like saying Vinny is the best person on The Jersey Shore... Flyers system has no potential on defense. Gustaffson is a serviceable d-man and will be that his entire career. Putting him on out top d-pairing when you have Coburn, Kubina, Carle, Meszaros is just stupid

You do everything you can to burry that rook behind those guys.

Not the +/- stat again... Heck he has the third highest +/- for Tampa Dmen this year if you want to go that route.

And everyone except Stamkos struggles to find offense in Tampa.

- eayost

My point is that he is an offensive defenseman... and he has been pretty bad the past few years. Would he be an improvement on MAB and Lilja and Gussy.. Yep.

But for everyone who is saying he would be our PP savior and add that big shot to the back end...

He has 5 PP points (1 goal) in his last 2 seasons.. and a whopping 11 points on this season.

Kimmo Timonen and Pavel Kubina could be one interesting top pairing. Might free up Kubina to feel more comfortable and get some of that offense back

Timonen-Kubina
Carle-Coburn
Meszaros-Gustaffson

Would you do Zulnerczyk, MAB, and 2 2nds for Kubina, Gilroy, and Hall?

I'd say it's pretty unlikely that Coburn and Timonen are broken up. Carle needs the help next to him more then anything else.

They have already done this with both Gusy and MaB. Carle routinely plays top lines.. As does Timonen. It is up to a coach to manage your pairings shift to shift. Just by saying Timonen and Gusy as a pair doesnt mean that Timonen doesnt take a shift with any other d-men.

FWIW, Eklund just tweeted that Kubina won't approve a trade to Philly. Rangers and Sens seem to be the favorites.

I disagree. He has shown himself to be capable. His mistakes are no different than other young defensemen. Shoring up his game with Timonen, a player he could strive to mimic in his play, would be prudent.

Just stopping by to place my vort for Kubina. He & Carle would look real good together. Maybe then Gustafsson plays with Timonen, where he looked good last season (in a small sample, mind you).
- Flyskippy

This whole Kubina discussion is very interesting. The worry I'd have is that it'd take at least a number 2 pick to get it done. Having said this, it would most likely help us a lot if he plays to his potential. We can't compete with our current situation on D IMO.. Homer has a tough decision.. buy or stand pat.

Flavor of the day... Kubina.

Kubina is at best a 5th d-man who has lost most of his offensive game. He isnt exactly a young guy, and struggles against speed. Meszaros or Gusty still make more sense to me next to Timonen.

If you were going to address the defense.. we better be bringing in more reliably defensive d-men.

The panel on sportsnet hockey central is saying that Yzerman has said he will keep Kubina off the ice until he's traded.. HAHAH..

Also, they did mention Philly as a possible destination.. of course..

As a goalie... would you rather have a positionally strong, physical defensive d-man.. or a rusty offensive d-man?

Not her deposit money. They way I understand it, she had a choice to either buy WC tickets, or get a discount on playoff tickets... It wouldn't suprise me that if they didn't make the playoffs the discount wouldn't be applied... Maybe something in the small print.

But in all reality, you could have probally made more money buying the WC tickets and selling them for a fortune to some New Yorker... 89 bucks of playoff tickets... OR... 4-5 hundered mark up on 2 WC seats...

- RooNosHockey

I could have asked for a refund. The Flyers may charge you an arm and a leg, but they don't cheat you.

I have gotten stuck with tickets that were a so called "guaranteed money maker" (US Open golf premium tent tix in 2009 at Bethpage--impossible to sell because of the financial crisis). So I just don't play the whole game.

if I'm the Rangers, I'm not tweaking the team at all. Why upset the chemistry? I think they can use another forward who can put the puck in the net, but with the system they play, and Lundqvist it probably isn't needed.

He was on the Fan 590 and said it was always his dream to play for either the Sens or Rags and stiff the Flyers.

I heard that!

I would think he would be brought in more to provide some punch on the PP.

He isn't someone who is gonna lock down the d-zone.

This goes back to Bill's blob from yesterday. The Flyers aren't likely to get the complete package d-man.
