Me too I am being greedy about Gaustad but I don't think it will cost that much. \
Okay it might cost Matt Read but right now I think he's expendable if it turns this team back into a legitimate contender.

- JoeRussomanno

You want to trade Read for Gaustad?

That was my initial concern when he was signed to begin with. How much were they going to get from him? Do you think he has made the Flyers better? I dont know if I would be willing to fork that kind of money out again next year. The kids learn alot from him (with his work ethic) but are they willing to pay $3+M for that again?

He's been a good soldier by all accounts, and he had a very good 25-30 games, he's hit a wall now. 1 goal in his last 16 games. Maybe he catches lightning in a bottle again for a stretch, but by no means should he be back next year.

A player similar to Betts. But Betts is most likely done.

Last I heard his knee is shot.

He has been acting as a coach at practice recently. Betts won't be playing for the Flyers.

CapGeek @capgeek
#NHL #Flyers could add ~$4.9m in AAV(s) at #NHLTD. Should demotions occur (Sestito, Gustafsson, as an example), space increases to ~$6.3m.

Holmgren has some cap space to work with, I hope he doesn't get trigger happy just for the sake of making a trade. If nothing makes sense, just stand pat.

I'd be open to signing him again, depending on the remainder of the season. That said, the Flyers should definitely have other needs prioritized ahead of signing him.

I think it might be more feasible to go acquire him right now than roll the dice on these other dmen as rentals. Put Goose in O&B go to war with that into the playoffs re-evaluate in the offseason and replace Pronger if he isn't coming back through FA if you can.
- JoeRussomanno

Is he available? if so, any idea on asking price?

It would certainly cost much on the Cap. Read is no where near being a player that would be considered expendable. Nor would I trade Read for Gaustad under any circumstances.

I think his days of being a Captain are over. Unless he forms his own Dodgeball, or Kickball team.
- PLindbergh31

I thought it might be interesting for him to be traded again, right in the middle of filming 36 hours this week.

That 3.5-4.0 can be spent much more wisely. On a younger, more reliable player.

It should get more than Gaustad out of Buffalo but right now I think we have enough young forwards who are going to be studs. We're too top heavy and need some help on the 3/4 lines especially center. This is getting glossed over because the points and lack of this so-called porch clearing defenseman that doesn't really exist anymore. The game has gone more to the transitional game.

The Flyers biggest weakness over the weekend and difference between themselves and the Rags/Wings was the PK. The Forwards were leaving guys open on the pK and 5 on 5. IF you can get that to stop this is a much better team. It will be a lot easier to fix this little nuance than find Pronger 2.0

I saw he was going to be on that. I thought he hated the media? Has L.A. mellowed him? Or did he just hate Pinocchio?

I can't imagine it not being the most boring hour of television ever (soon to be followed by the more boring 36 hours with Jeff Carter).

What was evident over the weekend was players were allowed to just set up shop in front of Bob and screen just about every shot. That is what Pronger did. He moved bodies, and thats what we need. A defenseman that is going to clear the porch.

Probably him walking the beach with Arnold (his lab) I doubt the cameras will follow him to the Skybar, or Sunset Blvd. Actually I don't even know if the Kings are playing a home game when they are filming the show. But you are right, it will be a very nondescript half hour.

I think he's got like 700k left against the cap this year. I know Read is special but we got Schenn we got Couturier, Giroux, JVR, Hartnell isn't old, etc. Having all these scoring guys isn't putting us ahead of Boston or the Rags. We need to start adding some defensive forwards. Gaustad is 30. For a guy who does what he does we could easily expect him to play at that level for another 6 or 7 years. Read is 25 he's got what maybe 10 more years at best? This team is lacking that shutdown center that can play big minutes we need that almost as bad as Pronger. If the move can be made to get the 3/4th line center we need I'm sure that it's a lot more feasible to do than getting Pronger's replacement.

I'm talking about guys like MAB and Gus. The others have been around the league for quite some time now and were not brought up through Philly's system originally.

But Coburn is a good example of what I'm talking about. He was a first-round pick who struggled to crack the Thrashers' lineup as a full-time player. Atlanta was desperate for veteran blueline help for a playoff push and made the deal with the Flyers for Zhitnik. Coburn soon became a regular with the Flyers and Atlanta ended up with nothing to show for it.

- bmeltzer

but Coburn has size and speed..what do MAB and Gus have that make you think they'll develope into something special?

The Franzen goal Cobie was clearing the porch but he left Franzen because another guy was wide open because a forward didn't rotate back and get him. Yes Cobie poop the bed there but there was more bed poopting before that happened.

Gotta fix the simple things first.
