Hmm... I think I heard this before... Nah. Must be deja vu.

I can't really see how you could fault him for not having a big step forward this season, what with the injury woes.

Still Could be a 3 way deal:

To LA:
Nash

To Columbus:
Bernier, JVR, LA 1

To Flyers:
J.Johnson, Columbus 2nd

Where do you come up with this stuff?

Need more out of JvR next year. 30+ goals and 75-80 points. I want that cap hit to look like a steal, not a disappointment.

- stveshdy

I know you are kidding, but if he plays on a line with Giroux it wouldn't be impossible for that to happen.

It will be a lot easier imo to do than go get the cure for pronger's absence.
I brought this up before and I keep reading out of Buffalo that Gaustad will be available. He's still young and should be had for the right price. Seeing how they were burned by Leino not sure if they would want a Voracek. But missing Blair Betts this year has hurt us a lot more than I thought.

I like the goose and think he would look good in O&B.

He will have to play with Giroux bc I dont know if Jagr will be back.

Then they can name Mike Richards as captain.
- bradleyc4

I think his days of being a Captain are over. Unless he forms his own Dodgeball, or Kickball team.

Yeah. I agree with you there. Jagr started out the season a house of fire, injuries, age, and the schedule has caught up with him.

Talbot?
- Dkos

Hes more of a winger and he needs someone to help him on the PK. I don't like Giroux being the other center out there. Too much risk of injury, wear and tear etc. I want G being fresh for his top line minutes and pp.

Oh come on, be fair. He could buy a motorboat and be captain of the USS Rum-and-Coke. Hopefully it'd work out better than it did for Dustin Byfuglien.

I'm starting to think more and more their priority should be a checking center. They don't have a true checking center unless you count Couturier and he's a kid. Get a checking center that can play big minutes and this might actually make it a tad easier on our defensemen.
- JoeRussomanno

Well getting any Center that can play big minutes and it's going to cost you. I think they could use a true 4th line checking Center who can play on the PK, in checking assignments in game situations. A lot of people want a 4th line that hits and forechecks and provides the so called energy. I don't. I want a 4th line that plays well defensively.

That was my initial concern when he was signed to begin with. How much were they going to get from him? Do you think he has made the Flyers better? I dont know if I would be willing to fork that kind of money out again next year. The kids learn alot from him (with his work ethic) but are they willing to pay $3+M for that again?

The only way Toronto thinks about this is if they miss out on Nash, Carter, Ryan, and Iginla. But it may pay off if Homer plays the waiting game and gets involved in deals for Nash, Ryan, and Iginla to drive up the price.

I know MJL is going to say that never happens, but it does.

When you say, "The only other alternative is to develop your own defensemen in the farm system, exhibit tremendous patience through their formative years. " Are you saying we should have more patience with regard to Carle, Mez and Coburn? Or are you refering to rookies like MAB and Gusty or guys who haven't seen any NHL time?
- Dkos

I'm talking about guys like MAB and Gus. The others have been around the league for quite some time now and were not brought up through Philly's system originally.

But Coburn is a good example of what I'm talking about. He was a first-round pick who struggled to crack the Thrashers' lineup as a full-time player. Atlanta was desperate for veteran blueline help for a playoff push and made the deal with the Flyers for Zhitnik. Coburn soon became a regular with the Flyers and Atlanta ended up with nothing to show for it.

I think it might be more feasible to go acquire him right now than roll the dice on these other dmen as rentals. Put Goose in O&B go to war with that into the playoffs re-evaluate in the offseason and replace Pronger if he isn't coming back through FA if you can.

I'm sure for a bag of pucks as well. Lamoriello has added some help (Foster, Ponikarovsky 8 points in 10 games as a Devil). But of course Lamoriello somehow got a 5th round pick for PL3. Absolutely comical Feaster gave up anything for that stiff.

Me too I am being greedy about Gaustad but I don't think it will cost that much. \
Okay it might cost Matt Read but right now I think he's expendable if it turns this team back into a legitimate contender.
