Here's what I don't get. Ek is a smart enough guy when it comes to hockey and player's value. If he heard this rumor directly from a source, why not downplay it a bit? Instead of naming all of the players involved (which sounds like a gross underpayment) and stating that it's next to done, etc.; he could have easily phrased it in a different matter to the point where it was only a rumor and didn't sound like a ridiculous offer.

For example: League source says LA and CBJ are talking about Nash. Main parts coming from LA appears to be Bernier and a pick, with more pieces to follow.

This way, if that trade actually did come through, he would still be the first to report the main details and didn't divulge enough details to look crazy. If it didn't come true, it's only a rumor and since only parts of the trade were mentioned, it could still have some legs down the line.
