Seems his source was wrong...or drunk.

The deal he posted made zero sense. My guess is somebody was pulling hid chain.

Yeah, I see no reason why we need to supplement our Offense. We can score, it's the defense where we need the help.

I think he brings more of a physical edge and powerplay prowess, so it might be worth considering. Assuming Carle's value is 5mil, I think Suter's value in the open market is somewhere ridiculous at 7-7.5mil and I would have to agree with you that he is not worth that kind of money.
- flyers20032002

Suter is not a physical defenseman. In terms of physicality, Suter and Carle are very comparable. So if you think that your getting a bruiser on the back line, you'll be disappointed in Suter.

My main beef with comment was Gaborik..... dont tell me Gabby is good defensively.. can he carry a team im not to sure will see this year in the playoffs
- Slammed81

Gabby is a plus 94 over his career.

Nash is a minus 74 over his career.

I always thought Gaborik was weak defensively too until he became a Ranger and I watched him every game and as a season ticket holder I get to isolate him at home and watch what he does. He is good defensively.

Nope. The rumor is that his list of teams he'd agree to go to has the Flyers on it.

I would say that Gaborik is responsible defensively. And he has to be, to play for Tortorella. Because he demands it. Nash has played on a team that for most of his career has been both poor offensively, and poor defensively. That is not a good combination for a players +/-

Gaborik played most of his career for a very defensively responsible Minnesota team. Nash has played his entire career in Columbus.

Mike Green is a +58. Is he good defensively? +/- is a highly subjective stat that has a lot more to do with the team a guy plays on than his own play.

Suter is much more Eric Dejardins than Chris Pronger. I think he is better than Carle. But this perception of Suter that people have is not accurate. He is not a bruiser type d-man. He is an all around, steady, plug him in and forget about him type defenseman like Rico was in his prime. Very good positionally, good in his own end, good in the offensive end. Plays in all situations.

However, I think some over rate him as much as some people under rate Carle. Carle gets ripped in here constantly and I find it ridiculous.

Suter is better. But not 2 million better.

Here is a summation of the Carle argument.

Hater: Carle Sucks
Defender: Why?
Hater: Because he does.
Defender: OK then.

Carle is what he is. A solid overall defenseman who can be a good complimentary part of a top pair. Or the anchor of a second pair.

The fact that he has played very well all season basically paired with the rookie of the day tells me all I need to know about him.

Now, cue the "I said Carle would win the Norris Trophy" full retard rebuttals.

Personally, I really hope the Rangers start to face some sort of adversity. They haven't had any key injuries or the like. Also, they are clearly peaking now.. I don't see them rolling right on through to the cup like this.

How many #1 seeds have won the Cup recently? It's not about what you've done from October-March, but where you are physically in April.

how much would you pay for a young kimmo? that's what suter is worth because they have comparable games. I think he's worth ~ 6-6.5 MM per over the course of a 5-7 yr deal.

Good post! There are a couple of areas where Suter is an upgrade over Carle. One is as a goal scorer. Suter has a better shot and a better ability to score goals. He is also is a better PP producer then Carle. And with the current Flyers team racking up far more PP opportunities then any team in the League, adding a true PP Qb will help in making the PP more deadly. In all other areas of the game, Suter and Carle are comparable.
The question then really is are you comfortable paying top money to a defenseman who doesn't bring a physical or true shutdown game to the ice. He's very good defensively, but not a dominating defenseman such as Chara in his own end that just physically swallows people. But your going to have to pay him like he is. Or do a long term deal with low years on the back end to lower the AAV to a reasonable rate.

If that is true then he's worth more then 6-6.5 M a year. Timonen got that and he signed his deal how many years ago? Salaries escalate.

They were without Staal for the first 3 months of the season. That was a key injury.

I did read what you wrote. He doesn't bring more of a physical edge then Carle does. Not at all. They are very similar players as far as a physical edge is concerned.
