I have seen games where he seems disinterested...that said, I think if he's in a better environment, he could easily be a top winger. The way Columbus has been managed during Nash's career has to be somewhat soul crushing.

I think getting an ELITE winger on Girouxs wing will have a trickle down affect on the entire team. While I do not agree with Nash being that guy because of his cap hit, I would be 100% on board with them trading for a legit goal scoring winger to play with Giroux for the next 5 years.
- Flyers2821

ELITE type players come with BIG cap hits. That can be an issue finding the right player. I rather the Flyers load up and try to acquire a defenseman or two.

Jsaq didn't come close to saying what you said. When your really the only top player and real scoring threat on a team, and your playing against the better teams. Your going to see the top checking lines, and top defenseman game in and game out. With nobody to help carry the scoring load. And no other top threats to draw attention and create any time and space for him. So there is going to be games where he doesn't look good. But for him to put up the numbers that he has in the situation he's been in. Shows how good of a player he is.

its gotta be tough playing there and not winning a playoff series and the same ole crap year after year but the one amazing number looking at his stats is in 2003-04 he scores 41 goals but is a -35... crazy

I am talking 5-6 mill cap hit for a proven goal scoring winger. That is what I am talking when I say elite, elite goal scorer. (which is why I can't get Bobby Ryan out of my head)

I'm not trying to be argumentative but who on defense this season? I can see them making a run at Suter or Weber during the summer. Maybe a guy like Gill who won't cost you that much in assets. I really don't know, that is why I am asking.

Columbus is dreadful. Nash has posted good numbers for playing in a losing atmosphere. Who the hell wants to be in Columbus (for hockey), nobody.

They had that all ready and traded him away (Carter). He was a elite goal scorer the past three seasons.

That's what happens when your on a team that is one of the lowest scoring teams in the League, and one of the worst defensive teams at the same time.

All the players you mentioned. Homer will have to call around and find out what other defenseman are available during the summer.

That's exactly what I mean. When he's been focused and has jump, he's literally a beast.

That is one thing that worries me though. Sometimes a guy gets stuck in a bad situation for sop long, he can't shake the funk. I don;t like his cap hit, but I think he could put up some monster numbers with a guy like Giroux.

And clearly there were other issues with Carter and that is why he is in Columbus and miserable and about to be traded again. That doesn't mean acquiring another one would not be an extremely beneficial move to this teams future.

I think he'd be energized to come to a team like Philly and play with a player like Giroux.

i dont like the cap hit either i hate it.. they only way i can see it really working and being able to do moves next year if briere would waive hes ntc in saying that i know hes having a bad year i dont like trading a pt per game guys in the playoffs they dont come around to often

I really haven't been keeping up with possible available d-men, that's why I was asking. As crazy as acquiring Nash would be for the Flyers, that is why I love this team. They certainly will stop at nothing to try and make the team better, certainly a move like this would be up for criticism.

As would I. Which is why I said getting Nash would not be a good idea because of that cap hit. However, getting Giroux an elite goal scoring winger should be a priority to this team in the range of 5-6 million. I think that is an important thing to do when you have a kid as dynamic as Giroux. That should be a priority, whether it is this year, this offseason or next year. It needs to be done.

Could JvR become that guy? Yes. But when you have an elite talent like G, my thought is you can't mess around waiting on someone to reach their potential.

Would you even want to do it? Ignoring the cap hit, I think Columbus over-values him and the price would be too steep.

I don't think he is going to be elite, as there are truly only a handful of elite goal scorers in the League. But JVR has a real chance to be that Winger for Giroux in the future, and be comparable to a player such as Bobby Ryan in terms of point production.

I thought that is what JvR is suppose to provide at some point. Why lock him up for 6 years at $4+M per year?

I think that the Cap hit is prohibitive, and the cost in acquiring him would be too high for my tastes.

I agree he has a chance at becoming that, but when you have an elite talent like Giroux... I'm not willing to wait and hope he reaches that potential if I can acquire the sure thing right now. (not saying they can, but if they can)
