The Avs have some good players. Sooner or later they'll mess it up and trade them for bags of horse manure.

They are a bizarre team.

Loads of good young talent but some are very overpaid but every team has that these days it seems.

So Nash may be in play and the Kings are interested? maybe they can send Richards to Columbus as part of the package
- nastyflyergirl

I mentioned this yesterday.

It would have made more sense that the BJs traded for Richards and the Kings traded for Carter.

The way Shanahan explained it on the video makes sense. He elevated himself off of his skates to deliever the blow. Hes head should be below the shoulders of Ericsson bc of the size difference. In the video Rinaldos head is almost equal to Ericsson who was standing straight up. He may have not targeted the head but he left his skates to hit him. If he stays on his skates and delivers the blow there would be no suspension. His past definately played a part in this suspension (two fines in less than a week). Those are like warnings to me and he still left his feet to hit Ericsson. My opinion that deserves a fine. I think the check itself would of been clean had he keeped his skates on the ice.

I think Sestito is very close to getting suspended as well, he has his arms up too high when he hits. It's just a matter of time IMO.

Not sure I see a deal out there that gets them what they need on defense.

I'd rather they sign a couple Johnny Oduya types in the off season and try to draft and develop some good young Dmen if at all possible.

Matt Carle is obviously a huge wildcard this offseason, no clue what's going to happen with him.

They might be able to package JvR or Voracek in a trade. It's far from ideal, but it's still dealing from a strength to address a weakness. However, where it goes off the tracks to me is, when you see the Flyers having to add significant additional pieces. One rumor had the Leafs wanting Read or a 1st in a deal for Schenn+. Unless that + is a guy like Kulemin or something, that's far too much.

Columbus might have wanted Carter over Richards or maybe the Flyers didnt even have Richards on the table when negotiating a trade with Columbus. What your saying does make sense bc of need.

Just some of the trades they made. The Johnson for Stewart and Shattenkirk move, trading 1st and 2nd rounders for Semyon Varlamov....they find good youngsters, but I wouldn't be happy with their trade record.

Columbus didn't have a Brayden Schenn to include for Richards.

It absolutely would have been clean. But he did leave his feet just a fraction of a second before contact. The correct call was made. He got a 2 minute minor for charging.

If leaving your feet for a hit is a suspendable offense no matter what.. the rule needs to be changed so that there are no 2 minute variety penalties. The rules say one thing, but Shanahan says another.

He does and he's reckless at times. Fantasy Cap has to reign it in a little bit...not too much, but he's got to be more aware of how high he's hitting guys, especially being so big.

I understand that, I was just saying IMO they traded for the wrong guy as far as I see a fit.

When you consider that Richards has had some really good chemistry in the past with Nash it makes even more sense.

Oh well, right now it looks like two really good deals for the Flyers

The way Shanahan described it makes sense. However, if Ericsson was injured then Rinaldos suspension would of been longer. Even Shanny himself said it would of been a clean hit if he didnt leave his feet.

A player doesn't have to leave his feet for a 2 minute charging minor to be assessed.

If a guy throws an illegal hit in a game-say a hit from behind-he is subject to in game penalties as well as further, supplemental discipline from the NHL. The NHL can also suspend hits that went unpenalized during the game.

Cant disagree with that. If im the Flyers thats what I ask for if the Kings are going to offer me Schenn. You either match that prospect or we dont make a deal. Columbus still gave up a nice package to acquire Carter. LA also for Richards.

This is all a plot by the Commish. Phase 1: Rinaldo got the ban yesterday. Phase 2: Sestito gets banned fro something marginal (or not marginal) in the Buffalo game. Phase 3: Crosby comes back on Saturday with two of Philly's biggest hitters sidelined. With a little help from the zebras, Crosby racks up 2 PP goals and an assist in a three point effort......(scroll down)......

....before the wild card, Braydon Schenn levels him cleanly, puts him out for the rest of the game (and season), and ultimately gets the game winner in OT. ((frank) tha Pens!)

I fully understand that. My point is that he didnt make contact with the head. He didnt injure the guy. He didnt even project himself towards the head. He got 2 games.

Here is a much more blatant charge/ head shot. This is a 2 game suspension. What Rinaldo did was a 2 minute minor.

Considering how the teams have faired and the players involved have performed so far, the Flyers are winning both deals, by large margins.

However, I doubt that Mike Richards is going to struggle getting points for too much longer and Carter might still get the Jackets a good return.

I know all of this.. I am just saying that in my opinion it was bull poop. They are not suspending him for his hit... they are suspending him for being a pain in the ass. They are tired of him walking the line.. but thats exactly what he needs to do. He didnt target the head. He was deserved of a 2 minute penalty.. and thats what he got.

It would be like suspending a guy for continual roughing penalties..

I'm in the minority on this but I think Carter will fetch a very good return still.

the #1 issue most teams in the NHL have is goal scoring and Carter can be a top 10 NHL goal scorer.

I think regardless of what is happening with him Columbus he'll fetch a solid return.

To be honest if the Jackets make two big deals with Carter and Nash they could turn that franchise around quickly. If LA is a destination I'd be demanding Bernier, Voynov, Toffoli and so on.
