Is a rental (Allen,Gill) going to help out? I would yes but not to the extent that all is saved.

I really think if they do want to bring in a dman they should try to get a young puck moving dman that is signed or an rfa so they can lock him up. The problem with that is that will likely cost the Flyers a good young forward and I'm not sure that's the way to go.

You gotta overpay for dman in the NHL now, look at the Neal/GoGo trade last year and the Johnson/Stewart/Shattenkirk deals as an examples.

The Flyers need to be very careful.

The thing is, as soon as those trades went down, the general consensus was that both Colorado and Dallas overpaid, at least by a little bit.

They have to avoid a bad deal, and I feel they can do so. I also wouldn't be devastated if they stood pat, let Voracek and JvR get healthy and go after free agents/trades in the summer.

Good points. One of the biggest complaints I have about how the Flyers play. 2 players in aggressively when they really have no chance to get on the puck. Read the play, if you can't get there don't over committ and go in deep where one pass beats two players, and the other team has free ice all the way to the Flyers end.

That's a good adjustment that can be easily made, either by the players or by the coaches. We have seen Laviolette switch to a defense first system for single games in the past-remember the Chicago game a couple years ago? The Flyers played a version of the neutral zone trap and managed to win on a last minute goal by Hartnell.

anyone hear Lavy on WIP? I missed it.
- Dkos

I listened to it this morning. Basically talked about Timonen's comments and how he was disappointed in the third period of the NYR game. He said the PK needs to be better (which is obvious). He said all systems are basically the same in the NHL and that they do make some minor tweeks here and there but the Flyers are happy with the personnel they currently have. The rookies have done a nice job but they need to tighten things up overall.

I heard part of it.

He said that this short break should see a couple players come back from injury.... He didn't speak to Bryz today, but he expects he will be ready by next game.... He mentioned that teams have highs and lows, and the Flyers got to 7th in the league by doing things right, and they have to get back to doing those things that made them sucessful. He said Bryz is the starter and will remian the starter... And he said as far as rookie goes they are part of this team, if they make mistakes it's his job to teach them, and let them continue to play...

That was the last 5 mins or so of the interview. They also talked about some show and him catching a fish or something...but I stopped paying attention at that part.

Rinaldo's double fine game in the past week, plus his lack of remorse in getting fined almost certainly played a role. Shanahan is sending a message to Rinaldo.
- Jsaquella

maybe so but I've seen farse worse plays get a fine or even nothing. I get that the fines probably directly led to the suspension but I think 2 games is crap. my opinion

Prior history plays a huge role. Zac's going to have a target on his back his whole career.

Besides, it's 2 games. Probably just gives Harry Z a chance to get back in the lineup. Which I'd prefer anyways.

Rinaldo has had questionable hits all ready. Your right that history played a role along with him leaving his skates to hit Ericsson. If he doesnt jump into the hit there would be no suspension. I like Z to the Harry also.

I'm betting Shelley is in. Do they have the roster spot to call up Harry Z with Voracek hurt? don't think they put him on the IR. I imagine they still can if he isn't expected to play Thurs retroactive to Saturday

They're more likely to play Shelley if Voracek can't go. Harry must have pissed off Lava, they didn't even recall him for Detroit.

Whats the point of a charging minor then? He didnt target or make contact with the head.

That would be like saying a guy could get suspended for having multiple roughing penalties. The rules are implemented for a reason, and regardless of his past, this still was not a suspendable infraction.

Agreed. If the hit in and of itself is suspendable, tack on time because of prior fines, but don't turn a minor penalty into a 2 game suspension because of it.

That's fine, but the slewfoot from last week was a suspendable incident and all he got was a fine. Things tend to even out.

The Avs have some good players. Sooner or later they'll mess it up and trade them for bags of horse manure.

It is a bush league decision. It was a hard shoulder to chest hit where it was clear it was a charging penalty due to the distance traveled (although he stopped skating and started gliding at the circle... Not sure I agree with the whole jumping to deliver a high hit part that Shanny used. Anyone who has thrown a hit know that you dont just skate into someone.. you "spring" into them. Yes he left his feet, but it was almost instantaneous with the delivery...

Not sure I see a deal out there that gets them what they need on defense.

I'd rather they sign a couple Johnny Oduya types in the off season and try to draft and develop some good young Dmen if at all possible.

Matt Carle is obviously a huge wildcard this offseason, no clue what's going to happen with him.

The way Shanahan explained it on the video makes sense. He elevated himself off of his skates to deliever the blow. Hes head should be below the shoulders of Ericsson bc of the size difference. In the video Rinaldos head is almost equal to Ericsson who was standing straight up. He may have not targeted the head but he left his skates to hit him. If he stays on his skates and delivers the blow there would be no suspension. His past definately played a part in this suspension (two fines in less than a week). Those are like warnings to me and he still left his feet to hit Ericsson. My opinion that deserves a fine. I think the check itself would of been clean had he keeped his skates on the ice.
