Your lowballing an offer to a young defenseman who has talent. Those types of defenseman are at a premium. Why would he sign for less than $5M per year?

Is he easily replaced? No, but he is replacable. And the Flyers can replace him better by trading for a younger d-man, then overpaying for Carle. If Carle wants to take a Home-Twon discount... say between 4.5 to 5.25 million then I may resign him. If not I trade his rights to a west coast team, and add another 2-3rd round pick to our stock. Hopefully we can package some of our picks to get another first.

why nash is a major upgrade over JVR and carle is probably gone we only really lose the +1 thing
- 2Real

For Nash money we could have jvr and a solid #4 d man. Jvr was showing he's has nash like ability

How does adding a young defenseman replace Carle? He would have to be a dam good young defenseman to do so. And that would cost what kind of assets to acquire? So I'd like to know how that is a better way to replace him?

lol i can say crosby can replace shelley...but is it going to happen? no....stop playing be a gm in nhl 12 and join us in the real world.
- Philly1980

Actually Crosby isnt a free agent so there is no chance of replacing Shelley with him. Suter is a free agent at the end of the season and is a realisitc player who can be had for the right price. How is that not the real world? What the hell does NHL 12 have to do with anything?

haha you would trade his right for a second? why not deal him at the deadline and get more.
- Philly1980

Because we are in a playoff hunt and need defenseman. If we can't/choose not to resign him, then there is no reason to trade his rights away for a pick.

Because your not OVERPAYING Carle, you have extra cap room, that can be used to sign other players. I would rather lose Carle and get a "lesser" defenseman then Overpay for Carle and not be able to offer Jagr or Voracek a contract.

You have other options through trades or by resigning Carle if you cant land Suter. Who says Suter isnt going to sign here? Why the hostility?

The chances of us winning the cup with Carle are higher, unless Carle is used to get another defenseman.

I'll take option 3... Keep Carle, Try for the cup, and trade his rights at the draft.

why trade for his rights when you can just sign him a few days later
carle is not the type of player you give 2 poops about trying to sign beforehand

Who says you have to overpay Carle to resign him? What extra Cap room? Who are you using to trade for that young defenseman you speak of? And yes, I'm going to let a player in his prime go so I can resign 40 year old Jagr. Good plan!

So what makes you believe that Carle is going to resign here? You think he is going to take a lowball offer? Your chances are almost equal to Suter at this point. You have a casino?
