everyone that tried convincing me that we can't fault the 6 or so rookies we have playing

well what do you replace carle with after this season if he's not resigned by the end of the season big chance we lose him due to another desperate team over paying him

- 2Real

If its me... I trade for Schenn or Johnson if the price is right before the TDL. If I cant get them for the right price, then I go after Gill or someone similiar.

In the offseason I trade carle to a team before UFA. Maybe Homer can work out a Carle and a 3rd for Suter to try and negotiate early... If not, then at the Draft I try and get a young defenseman that may be difficult to sign, or something, and I pick defenseman after defenseman in this draft.

If I cant get Nash to give us suters rights, and I cant trade for a young defenseman, then I try and sign a puck moving 1 or 2 UFA and a 3-4 crease clearing UFA.

I still think the defense needs to be addressed far more than the forwards.

Carle could easily be replaced. I wouldn't say all the talk to get Suter is out of the question.

Who said we are re-building? Re-tooling maybe, but we have as much shot to win the cup as anyone.

We are 2nd in the league in scoring, and Bryzgalov is a top 10 goalie, he just has to start playing that way. If we get a defenseman that can bang bodies and clear the net, and maybe one that can move the puck, then I would hate to be the team that has to face us in the playoffs. If Bryz gets his game back, which it looks like he has over the last 8 games... Then this team is a cup contendor IMO.

Seriously we have a shot....Maybe if montreal makes it and beats boston and ny.

He is just 1 player. You can't replace someone like Pronger or Timonen, but if your saying Carle is in their class, where there arent similiar defenseman that could play his role... Just stop talking now...

Agreed. Any money the Flyers have in cap space (summer/draft included) needs to be spent on defense first and whats left over can be used for forwards.

I see no reason to get Gill if we're not expecting to win the cup this year. Just take the losses and keep the assets for future years.

Schenn or Johnson would be great to add cause both will be great for us in the years to come and we might still be able to add suter

Clearly what I was saying there is that Carle is in Pronger or Timonen's class.

The only forward needed to be resigned is V. Jagr is a luxury. I would like to see him back for like 2 year worth 4 mill. The D is a NEED. 2 dmen. I like our rookies but it takes 4to 5 years to settle in and figure it out. They can be call ups. Even a 7th. I see carle resigning. A decent deal. Say...4 years 16 mill.

Suter is an upgrade over Carle. The article suggest some nice things but in reality Suter will command more than Carle (which indicates hes better). Unless the other teams (GM's) in the NHL dont know hockey either. Carle is a good defenseman but I dont think hes at Suters level, imo.

I know but at the same time we cant simply dismiss carle as an easily replaceable piece.

Who isn't expecting us to in the Cup? We might not be the favorites, but like I said... We have a top 10 goalie, that can turn it on any time, and the deepest Offense in the laegue. If Bryz plays like he can, and we get a d-man like Gill, grossman, or someone... There is no reason that we cant win the cup.

i'd love to get grossman for the long run but dallas won't trade him unless it's a wash type of trade since they're in the hunt

Suter. Has nothing to do with being a "smartie". I hear people say how are they going to replace Carter and Richards. You have no idea what defenseman can step in and be just as effective as Carle. Its not a one way street, goes both ways.
