interesting that they are the only exceptions. the year the flyers were last in the nhl.(the2007-2008 season). they filled to 98.9 capacity.

odd that philadelphia isnt included in those exceptions

Realistic...

Sabres get: Colin Wilson and a 2 or 3rd rounder
Nashville get: Roy, and Leopold

Sabres get: Stastny
Avs get: Stafford, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and a 4th.

Sabres get: 4th round pick
Jets get: Brad Boyes

Sabres get: 3rd or 4th round pick
Wings get: Gaustad

Vanek - Stasnty - Pommer
Leino - Wilson - Ennis
Gerbe - Adam - Kassian
McCormick - Ellis - Kaleta

Myers - Ehrhoff
Regehr - McNabb
Sekera - Brennan

Miller
Enroth

Sabres have: two 2nd rounders, 2 3rd rounders, and 2 4th rounders.

They could even trade a pick or two of those for another wing/center not top tier talent...

I would also look in FA to find someone better than Ellis for the 4th line.. maybe Konopka?

Thoughts?

my complaint is with Garth's quote "Win or lose, for the past 41 years, Sabres fans have supported their team with all of their being."

and i've heard enough of the "our crooked ownership" is why fans didnt go. no matter the owner of the flyers i'm still showing up. i root for the jersey not the 75 year old guy up in the press box.

- nurk

Dude, you've been on this blog long enough to know that the Sabres' fans pick apart Garth's ridiculous blogs too...
And it's much harder for markets like buffalo to fill the arenas in general with 25% or less people of most major sports markets...
I get your point, but mine was also that there's much more to the story than simple attendance stats

to be fair, the city is dying at a very slow pace, compared to the city, the hockey team is making major strides...
- FIREonICE

Yea major strides, to throw money away on players that will do nothing. I would move back home in a minute if it wasn't for my job. Sell every player you can at the deadline, the hell with it. I was against this but what the hell, start over that includes Coach and GM.

i disagree. there are certain organizations that will sell out their arenas whether the team is winning or losing.
- nurk

What I never understood is where it makes sense to spend upwards of $100 per ticket for 41 games to watch garbage when a team is bad.

So you're not a true fan is you decide against spending $10K during a season where the team is playing terribly to buy seasons, yet you still watch every game at home?

That seems like total nonsense to me.

All realistic...
But let me ask this...
Would you rather have stastny at 6.6m cap hit who is on pace for his FOURTH straight year of less than 23 goals (my point here is he's underproducing and WAY overpaid)...

OR

Galchenyuk (who we have a very good chance of getting with that pick you're trading for stastny) who's likely (IMO) to put up similar #s at a FrACTION of the cost... With the potential to become a true superstar (which stastny IMO is not)

Thoughts?

To me, you only pay for either the truly elite, big time player, or who you feel is the uncovered gem.

You don't pay for the middle unless you are getting a bargain.

understood... Stastny is not a Goal guy.. but he has had 47, 50, and 59 assist seasons which is what Vanek and Pommer need between them...

Would you rather have the Sabres draft a guy coming off a torn ACL injury whose stats are great from playing next to Yakutpov, who is only 18 and might not be NHL level of playing for 3-4 years when certain players might be gone off the Sabres??

Lindy would ruin either player, so it doesn't matter. How do we know Galchenyuk will work on this system? or if we can even get him. Darcy is at the helm.

We pay Stafford 4 mill and Leino 4.5 mill and we are worried about a proven guy in Stastny at 6.6 mill? what the hell is going on here.

I agree he would be playing right away... but its not like Tavares, Seguin, Duchene, RNH were putting up superstar numbers in their first year or two..

Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin, and Stamkos are not in the cards for Buffalo's draft.. I say trade the pick and live to fight another day with known good players..

I do not want to see a rebuild.. I just want to see a reload...

Miller, Ehrhoff, Myers, Regehr, Pommer, and Vanek are not gonna be happy rebuilding.. they will want trades.. they want to win

my proposed trades would yield the team..
Staffords 4M
Roy 4M
Boyes 4M
Gaustad's 2.5M
Leopolds 3M
Hechts 3.25M

Thats TOTAL: 20.25M

Myers going up to 5.5M will make it 16.25M to play with..
Add Stastny and we are round 10M to play with.

Resign Ennis, Kaleta and we are at 8M...

Maybe go after Konopka to center hte 4th line.. and we are at 6.5M

Find a way to shed Sekera and we are back to 9M...

this could be real... and we don't need Kane/Getzlaf/Ryan/Parise

Vanek - Stastny - Pommer
Leino - Wilson - Ennis
Gerbe - Adam - Kassian
McCormick - Konopka - Kaleta

Myers - Ehrhoff
Regehr - McNabb
Brennan - Grags (or sign a D-man to the 3rd line?)
