i will take that bait
While it is true that an 8th place team with a hot goalie can make a run in the playoffs, it rarely ends with a cup.. actually i do not believe it has EVER ended with a cup. plus this team is not built to battle through a wet paper bag
i understand the logic behind the sentiment, but i can and will never root against this team making the playoffs. it just doesnt feel ok to me as such a big sabres fan.
and im not saying you or anyone else on this board isnt a big sabres fan, but my personal stand point is i will never ever root for this team to lose. just my $.02 - adubs14
i never root for them to lose either but the sting of losing the game really isn't there when the final horn sounds this year like in the past few seasons..

The pick just provides a silver lining for losses. I'm still hoping for the postseason though

I think you just commented for most everyone here. Pretty good anology of our sabres season.
There was a kid who played on the tribunes with me who was really good at all that poop... My coach was always like... If you try that during a game I will kick your ass....

She looks like she might be pretty good.. i expect and hope the only reason she pulled that move was because they were up by 3.

it will be for me. i had huge hopes for them going in, as im sure many on this board and across the NHL did.
just because they sucked for 2 straight months doesnt mean i still dont want them to make the playoffs and win the cup. and it will suck the day they get eliminated, whether it be in the regular season or in the playoffs

You mean like when Nylander played in Boston.
He made a play and when he got to the bench Sullivan said nice play dont ever do it again. Nylander replied but coach "I'm the Swedish Gretzky"?

i def. had high hopes at the start of the season, especially after they started strong.. i just think lucic and the following games illuminated some large impurities on this team that need to be addressed prior to them being real contenders again..

Ok, so we have 7 games before the deadline. 5 of the 7 are against teams in the playoffs currently. Right now we are 1 point above the last place team in the conference and 8 points out of 8th with 1 game in hand (10 out of 7th with 3 games in hand). How many points do we need to get in these 7 games to not be a seller? I would say we need 10 out of 14 to stay alive. So 5-2 or maybe 4-1-2 would keep us as buyers. Therefore, if at any point in the next 7 games we can no longer acquire 10 points, I say we switch to sell mode. Thoughts? - Pierceme69
i 100% agree with this...there are 7 games between now and trade deadline..If i'm sabres, I'm not committed to being a buy or seller until these 7 games are over.

I think we become sellers at what ever point we can no longer acquire 10 points (or what ever number of points the Sabres believe we need to realistically stay alive).

i know the revenue of making the playoffs is great but what benefit does this team get from fighting their way back in to 8th place to play the bruins or rangers in the playoffs.. Maybe they have a chance against the rangers just because of their style of close games but the bruins will wear this team down.
I think they benefit more from missing the playoffs getting a little higher pick and trading off some of the dead weight to re-tool the team for next season. - SabresFaninIndiana
The only way I would be in favor of picks is if we could leverage them for proven NHLers.
We all remember the Crosby's, Kane's, Getzalf's and Malkin's, but those guys are a rare breed. What is forgotten is all the other 1st & 2nd rounders that never make it to the NHL. So we have a small percentage of potential players from what is a crap shoot at draft time.
Gimme the guy with some kind of big league resume-
