You should write him a strongly worded letter informing him of your assessment.

regarding the Rinaldo hit, he left his feet. But it makes me wonder whether he left his feet to avoid having his head hit Ericsson's shoulder due to their size difference. Not that it would negate the charging call, but could be a bit of self-preservation going on there.

it looked like he held up and turned his body so as not to completely crush him, but still left his feet and delivered a slightly late hit. i don't like the suspension - especially in light of others like volchenkov elbowing briere in the head - concussing him most likely - and getting absolutely nothing for it (not even a (frank)ing minor).

It's a play where the 2 minute minor penalty is enough punishment. These days, whenever a guy's glove comes flying off after a hit, it needs to be "looked at".

70% of the calls against rinaldo would not be made against any other player. he absolutely did not deserve a suspension for that check that shanahan all but said was legal. his skates barely left the ice and eriksson's knees were both bent. shanahan has lost all credibility in my eyes.
- flyerscup2011

Is this percentage just something taken out of thin air? I saw the same video. Shanahan did not say it was legal. Rinaldo clearly launched himself into the hit. I know it's a ruling against A Flyer. But they do commit penalties, and they do ocassionally break the rules resulting in a suspension.

i'm well aware of that and when a flyers player deserves a penalty or suspension i shut my mouth, but in situations like this i bitch because it's no even defendable.

and yes the percentage is a number i pulled out of thin air.

Shanahan gives a simple pretty clear explanation for why he was suspended. The problem is how often it is thought that a Flyer doesn't deserve a penalty. I could pull a percentage out of thin air.

68% of statistics are made up on the spot.

That being said, he clearly left his feet. Its not even debatable. There is no opinion involved. He leaves his feet before impact. You are argue it all you want, but it doesn't change the facts.

What is the difference between the two minute minor for "leaving your feet" versus the 2 game suspension for "leaving your feet"? A guy expecting to be hit after he makes a play behind the net versus a guy admiring his pass?

I think that the two fines Rinaldo picked up last week played a role in his suspension, too.

he may have left his feet, but a charge doesn't mean an automatic suspension. personally, i think 2 games is too much, but whatever.

Prior to seeing that replay, I felt that at most it was a little late. Hard to argue the suspension, really, with the fines factored in and Rinaldo's comments on the fines.

Personally, after the hit was made, I did not see it as a suspendable offense. But after seeing the explanation, taking into consideration that the NHL is cracking down on illegal hits. And that he was just fined recently for 2 different actions. I can understand why he was suspended. It's about keeping an open mind.

Do you think it was a suspendable hit without these fines considered?
