This will apparently come as a shock to many here, but no team has 6 1-2 defensemen.

No but reading these boards you'd think they have 6- #6 defensmen.

All about finding the right guys who fit your system. You have to instill the defensive mentallity. The Flyers have some nice players but their a complete mess in the defensive zone (forwards included).

I'm not going to join the Matt Carle bashing but I will say that he's the biggest question mark on our back end in so many ways. Do the Flyers plan on re-signing Matt Carle? Will he go unsigned, stay with the Flyers beyond the deadline and will his defense partner become upgrade? Will the Flyers shop Carle to see if anyone is interested for a decent return? I'll be okay with any of these outcomes but I am interested to know what Carle's value is in a trade as a pending UFA.

Something tells me he's getting 2 games.

I gotta be honest, I don't see it as being a hit that warrants a suspension. I felt he left his feet a bit but didn't think he necessarily targeted the head. Ive seen far worse hits just get fines or nothing at all

Not sure where this mention of him being a TDL piece is coming from. What about Snider or Homer makes you think that the Flyers would ever make a move that weakens them for the current year's playoff run? Carle would not go anywhere unless they were receiving a defenseman of equal or greater value, simply put. He could be traded at the draft, but will barely fetch you a draft pick. He'll be here to stay.

Actually, about half the teams in this league don't have any "true" 1-2 D men.

I watched "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior" before the Flyers game yesterday. When The Humongous crashes his high-powered goalie mask-driven vehicle into Mad Max's big rig at the end, I thought of Bryz and Talbot and how this season isn't leaking oil. It's leaking sand, my friends. Sand.

And those teams are the ones that never get to hoist the Stanley Cup.

You of all people should know Carle will never be a 1-2 defenseman.

I'm sick of you belittling what anyone else thinks just because its different from your opinion, which you treat as fact, and then look to argue over. I'm trying to think of a way to put this that won't get me banned again. Oh well. Some one else can deal with it.

the Flyers could use one or more rugged defenseman. True shot blockers. We've come close with OD and Lilja, but they are/were old. Right now we have Gus in the lineup. In the future, he's hopefully going to be a 1-4 Dman, but right now, I think his spot in the lineup would be better suited for a different kind of Dman. I don't think that is somehow going to magically make the team a contender, but I think it would help.

The Carle soft as marshmallow play when he posed for a picture with Bertuzzi on the Wings PP goal. It was in the same dream with Briere flying to Florida while being concussed.
- PLindbergh31

So what do you think that Carle should have done there? Should he have tackled Bertuzzi? Picked him up and physically moved him away from there? Cross checked out of there? What? Because your telling me that Timonen would have kep Bertuzzi away from the front of the net there? It's a new game and if your paying attention, the days of defenseman physically moving a player away from the front of the net are over. You'll be going to the box for interference.

I get your point, but the Canucks came within a game of winning one. Who are the true No. 1 and 2's there? It can be done, but the whole team has to buy in.

When we were rolling with Pronger 1a, Timonen 1b, Carle Meszy and Coburn as 2/3's whoever as our 6, I was REALLY confident in our D. I'd even say it was a championship caliber d, THN was writing articles about it. Remove Pronger, and it shifts everyone up into a spot that the org wasn't meaning to have them play. Sometimes solid plans don't work.

The loss of Pronger is kiling us.. but that's not news. Without the loss of Pronger, i say we would be right with NYR at the top of the conf.

Was Carle ever paired with Pronger? Was Pronger ever a No. 1 D man? It's been so long now I can't remember.

*Just messing with ya. I think Carle is a 3-4 guy myself*
