Rinaldo was just fined recently, so a hearing now means a suspension. He's been on the edge all year, Shanahan is probably tired of seeing Rinaldo's name pop up on his screen.

if anything shanny should be calling him to congratulate him on such a well timed body check

18.00 shoulder to the sternum perfectly legal, his momentum at the point of contact got him airborne.

All true. I think the contention will be that the hit was late.

I thought it was clean when I saw it, the referees and the League disagree. So be it.

He's gotta think of his health first no one's faulting him for that. It's when people want to sit there and say he's faking it cause he heard he could be traded that's when the shrapnel flies.

Let's call it how it is, though. The hit was questionable because he's meeting with Shanny. That means that the hit is in question. As PL pointed out, he has a history with Shanny and that will almost always play into things. Lastly, he plays for the Flyers. Sounds like a perfect recipe for 2-games.

Yeah, I was hoping that at first as well. However, all signs point to the fact that they are serious....

I'd keep Carle around for upwards of $5 million/year.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to grab a defenseman in the first round this year, as this year's crop is defense-heavy. But I don't know too many orgs who succeed by drafting heavily on defense. You still take the best player available, regardless of position.

- bradleyc4

With JVR's pricetag going up I don't think you can afford Carle at 5. That money should really be split up to get a more respectable 5-6 line.

And I'm all for taking the best player available but I think this is just a year where the Flyers have to use 2 out of their first 4 picks on D.

I would let Carle walk. Too many weaknesses in his game, if they are going to spend 5 million on him, might as well spend 6.5 on Suter.

I'm tired of watching Carle's shot from the point get blocked.

Edit: I would actually trade Carle at the deadline.

First and formost draft heavy on D. Then I'd let Carle walk for anything over 4. Carrying three 3-4 defenseman only takes away money from elsewhere. Target the best D UFA as well as a solid vet or possibly two for around or under 2mil a piece for the 5-6.
- hereticpride

Yea, we really do have to start drafting Defense. Only problem is, these guys wont be ready with this current batch of offensive players, as it takes much longer to develop a D-man. I think you should trade for a young guy like Schenn or Johnson, that will grow with this current group of young guys, and add 1-2 in the offseason if you can, but dont over pay by much. If you cant get the 1-2 in UFA, trade for someone like Visnovsky on the last year of thier deal...

I don't think Rinaldo's hit was so late, but they're probably looking at him leaving his feet.

The charge was the right call, considering he lined him up from the top of the circles and made a mad dash at him.

WTF was Carle doing standing in front of Betruzzi on the PK? Looks like he was posing for a picture with him. That was ridiculous.

Excellent point. I would even go to 7 for Suter.

Trading Carle at the deadline tho? For what? Because you can pretty much kiss the playoffs goodbye if we lose another D man. Maybe trade him at the draft?

My two eyes are the evidence. I see soft as a marshmallow play from him constantly. Everyone all year has said the d-core has been awful, well you already have Meszaros and Coburn locked up, does it make sense to lock up another guy who has been part of the defensive struggles?

I would prefer to spend 6.5 mil on Suter, too. But to get to that point, you have to let Carle walk first, and then hope that Suter signs. If not, you're without both guys, and then overpaying for a lesser free agent, or trading valuable assets to acquire a like defenseman.

Kronwall's hit was great. I'd like to see more Flyers apply those kind of checks.

My point on Rinaldo was the 'distance traveled' aspect of the charging rule.

Based on what this team has done against top teams do you think they are a legit contender this year? If Carle isn't in the plans to be re-signed, why not get some assets to build for the future for him.
