Fixing the Flyers Woes.

#1 Trade for 2 defenseman that can clear the front of the net.

#2 Make someone Interm-Captain. Someone needs to become a vocal leader on this team.

#3 Ride Bryzgalov. He has been a work horse his entire career. Its time to start him every game except in back to back situations. His last 10 games have not been bad at all. Even counting the Bruins and Rangers game he has like a 1.70 GAA and a .930 SV % in the last 10.

#4 If there is cap space, then maybe add a veteran scorer at the deadline.

- RooNosHockey

1. Who and at what price? If the rumor mill is to be believed, the asking price for Tim Gleason was a 1st rounder. There's probably 10 other teams out there to drive up the price for defensemen, as well. And adding a defenseman or two won't matter if the guys who are here don't start playing better defense.

2. Kimmo Timonen has been a vocal leader. So has Briere. Putting a C on a guy's chest doesn't make him more of a leader.

3. Bryzgalov is sick. He's missed the last three games with the flu. He even had to leave the bench last night after the first period. When he gets healthy, I agree. Ride him and see what he can do.

4. Not a bad idea at all.

I disagree. Jagr has been good. He might only be good for 60 games, but he's a much better fit with Giroux on the top line.

Plus, you get the flexibility of his one-year contract(s).

- bradleyc4

Jagr has done nothing the last 6 weeks or so. In and out of the lineup, 1 goal in his last 16 games. Flexibility is a fair point, but if he isn't brought back next year, and I'm not sold he should be, there isn't going to be enough money to sign a top 6 winger most likely.

The defense is a mess. There is no way getting around that. They have been inconsistent all year. Hopefully things will change. I've been patient but the same mistakes keep happening. Breakdowns, Turnovers, Coasting, Guys open in front of the net/ in the slot. One big cluster(frank). Needs to change to have a chance.
- stveshdy

Ive been saying this for some time but was told Bryzgalov was supposed to fix that because he is handsomely paid to.

If LTIR rules are changed, then yes, he becomes a definite possibility.
- bradleyc4

And if not, I agree that Briere is the best candidate for the buyout.

I think most here agree that goose or Moore would be a nice additions. on d, I'd favor Allen out of the oft-rumored crew.
- isaiah520

honestly i dont think we should trade for rentals i want them to make the playoffs but at the same time i think they should trade for younger guys and picks i know we dont have many ufa coming next season i just think if they make a trade it should be for the future

I would bring him back if the price is right...i think the young guys being around him and learning from him is a big plus.

Agreed that he's no lock to return next season. There may not be a guaranteed top-9 spot for him.

You know how I feel about that contract. But I have hope that Bryz can play better. And if he doesn't, it's off to Rock Soup City™.

With the glut of centermen on this roster already, plus the hopeful addition of yet another one to anchor the 4th line and PK, Briere becomes an overpaid luxury. Plus, his NMC makes him impossible to trade or demote.

He'd be the guy I target in this hypothetical situation.

- bradleyc4

Wouldnt be a bad idea.. how much longer is he around? The only problem is that he is worth EVERY penny come playoffs.. Point per game playoff performers are not exactly a dime a dozen..

If the rumors are true, and this is the second time I have heard this, and Selannie is thinking about being traded, and the Flyers are interested, then why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get Visnovsky with him. Visnovsky still has a year left and would not be just a rental, and would be great to add to the PP.

Then you can add Gill or Allen for some picks. I'm not sure how you could work this under the cap, but I would ahve to think you would have to give Anaheim at least 1 player for both Selannie and Visnovsky.

I'd prefer trading for young guys that can step in now and be pieces for the future.

However, I don't dismiss rentals, either. Just don't overpay for them. What if there's a repeat of 2010? It's possible that the Rangers or Bruins lose in an early round against a lesser team. It's possible that the Flyers could beat one or the other, if their level of play improves.

In that case, having a Gill or Allen could be important. But they can't trade a 1st rounder or promising kids for that kind of player right now.

I think a healthy JVR would be a good fit on a line with Hartnell and Giroux.

most TDL deals are to the sellers advantage so an inexpensive rental is usually the best way to go.

It would be a gamble, for sure. You'd need to have a lot of faith in Schenn and Couturier to come up big in a playoff scenario next season.

The problem is that you would be trading away youth and picks for 3 players with an average age of 97.

Ridiculous. Their all professionals and if you give them time and space there going to make you pay. Bryzgalov can be better no question but the defense has been terrible for the most part.

agree completely. i just don't think a letter makes any difference in whether or not the team has a vocal leader.
