Which active coaches have career point percentages higher than .500?
1.Todd McLellan, .681
2.Bruce Boudreau, .679
3.Mike Babcock, .641
4.Dave Tippett, .620
5.Joel Quenneville, .603
6.Randy Carlyle, .599
7.Claude Julien, .596
8.Brent Sutter, .593
Wikipedia only listed the top 8. I assume there are far more. And these are ONLY the guys with more than 200 games coached.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...f_NHL_statistical_leaders - Leeman4Gilmour
I just found a more complete list. To update (stats taken from the end of the 2010/11 season):
1.Todd McLellan, .681
2.Bruce Boudreau, .679
3.Mike Babcock, .641
4.Dave Tippett, .620
5.Joel Quenneville, .603
6.Randy Carlyle, .599
7.Claude Julien, .596
8.Brent Sutter, .593
9. Ken Hitchcock, .588
10. Alain Vigneault, .570
11. Lindy Ruff, .564
12. Peter Laviolette, .559
13. Darryl Sutter, .552
14. Ron Wilson, .532
Notables left off the list due to having fewer than 200 games coached or not currently employed (but not retired):
Dan Bylsma, .653
Guy Boucher, .628
Marc Crawford, .554
Craig MacTavish, .537
Pat Quinn, 0.555
Terry Murray, .557
Jacques Martin, .551
So, there you go. 20 coaches you could consider "active" with higher win percentages than Wilson.
If you want to include all-time leaders, there would be literally hundreds. |

I'm in complete head (frank)edness over that pic. The greatest players of the NHL in each decade...and Chris Phillips and Lalime? (frank) me...it's Chris Phillips not Chris Pronger. - weirdoh

Really, I have to ask - why do you hang out here, day after day, just making stupid cheap seat comments about a hockey team you don't like? Seriously, brother...just sayin', but, get a life, would you? |

But was he as effective at throwing his players to the wolves?
That's the key criteria for this job, apparently. We need a coach who can really get down on his players.
You wouldn't want a guy who could inspire confidence or support. Not in a market like this. It's best to completely cut them down while everyone in the media is, as well. |

For refusing to buy into the Ron Wilson bandwagon's stuff?
All that junk about career wins leader, blah blah blah...
He's not a very good coach. In fact, he's a very average coach and if anybody really wants to dissect the reasons why we fall apart after we win a few games, it's really quite simple:
Ron Wilson's teams will gravitate towards his career win percentage. If 1200 games have shown us anything, it's that Wilson is a roughly .500 coach. |

Burn is pretty consistent in his observation that the Leafs are a deeply flawed team. Neither of us has been sucked in by some brief competent streaks. - GoneFullRetard

Average coach for average team - faceto27
Fortunately, coaching is one of those areas not impacted by a salary cap. It's also one of those areas that doesn't take years to overhaul (like an entire roster).
So why is an "average coach" the "perfect fit" for a team with the resources of the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Are we wrong to expect a competent coach until we ice a perfect team? |

Downward Spiral 16 of the last 26 games against teams in the playoffs and that doesn't include teams like Tampa, Washington and Calgary just on the outside. |

well yeah but that would be pretty much like p*ssing on everyone's parade. I think he was one of the people last week, before the losing started, who was suggesting that planning for winning playoff rounds was a little premature. - GoneFullRetard
