i don't think any leafs fan on this board expects them to be contenders for the cup.
playoffs would be a good step for our young team.....it would be a good experience. for now, burke has to stay the course, keep building depth, and make the major trade when he's accumulated enough trading chips...which is not yet.... - Pen15
That's exactly right. If Burke bends to the public pressure, he will be dooming this team to another five years of mediocrity. If the fans can be patient, this team will be a top 5 contender in the East very soon. They are not a goalie or just one star player away.
Anyways, I don't care what any of you think. I think this team has to be considered a contender. Add a few pieces at the deadline and there you go. I can't wait to shut up the critics.

totally. i don't think burkie is the type to give a poop about what the media/public thinks. otherwise he would've blown this up the first time they lost 3 straight.
by the fact you get a hard on everytime we win a few games in a row....and then call doomsday and blame wilson anytime we lose a few in a row.
i think i've been pretty consistent with my posts. ive always been of the opinion that we'll be competing for 8th, and never once have i shifted my thinking on rw, bb, or any of our roster players.
EDIT: or our style of play. - Pen15
Burn is pretty consistent in his observation that the Leafs are a deeply flawed team. Neither of us has been sucked in by some brief competent streaks.

by consistency, i'm not saying he changes his whole outlook...but he certainly doesn't bring it up when we win.
never after a 3 game winning streak have i seen burn on here female doging about our breakout system....

leafs have two very big problems
they lack a big time star #1 C
they lack a solid starter in goal that they can depend on game in game out
and these are two of the harder positions to find players

well yeah but that would be pretty much like p*ssing on everyone's parade. I think he was one of the people last week, before the losing started, who was suggesting that planning for winning playoff rounds was a little premature.

I would agree that you nailed the top two problems.
After that though, they need a new coach, who will teach them to be tough, physically and mentally. You can see the fear on the ice when they lose a game...
I'm in complete head (frank)edness over that pic. The greatest players of the NHL in each decade...and Chris Phillips and Lalime? (frank) me...it's Chris Phillips not Chris Pronger.
