how, army is the slowest player on the ice, hasen't done a thinggg in 2 years . boyce brings speed and hits, army hasen't hit anyone in 2 years, crabb gets poits.
- leafsdc

army is the crafty presence i think the team needs down the stretch. hate to say it, but he brings some great sand paper and swagger to the lineup.

again, just think he needs to be given the opportunity to get his legs under him. lets not forget, when healthy, he's one of the most effective pests in the leauge....not to mention, a 'dirty area' player, which we sorely lack in these tight checking games...which we will see more and more of as the season unwinds.

so injuries have made him that slow. hes done and rw knows it and is sending a message to burkie that komi and army have no place on this team, these are huge games and their sitting.
- leafsdc

Or that they just have too many players and we're in the stretch drive where we could see injuries...

frattin is on fire with the marlies right now

schenn.. well.. either you stick with him or move him.. those are the choices burke has with him

- Dozzer

thats not true at all, komi is gone next year which allows schenn to stay, you rely think he would trade schenn to put komi back in . komi is done as a leaf.

That play in Philli where Dion came from behind the net and put it up to him and he didn't accept the pass and let Philli put it on net ending up in that goal where Hartnell and Dion went at it...

sealed his fate IMO. Since then he's barely touched the ice.

ahhh.. that was the turning point was it... okay.. it makes a little more sense now

could be Army's not really in shape yet (which I'd agree with based on the game he played), but can't put him back on IR...
- Big_Lightnin

i know.. but having that much cap space being used up in the press box still bugs me

They should scratch that pylon Dion too after Lars "hands of magic" Eller made him look foolish on saturday night.
- shinebox

In fairness to Dion on that play......... Dion has ALWAYS been a bad defensemen when he plays the left side. He should never be made to play the left side.

yup, i think so too.....

just checked.. yup, just the habs game he was sat out.. but if he gets sat out again tomorrow its telling me that wilson prefers boyce and crabb in over army.. which i find a bit odd

- Dozzer

there was some speculation that Boyce got in the game because he is from Summerside, PEI, and it was the Kraft Home Town Whatever on Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday.

Grain of salt and all...

must be the to dumbesttt thing a leaf fan has ever said period.
- leafsdc

why?

komi has played better defensively than schenn this year...and imo is a much better shutdown dman than schenn at this point. not to mention, a little vetran leadership could go a long way when a young team is battling for the playoffs...

army needs to be given an opportunity....period.

he's a bad skater, often find himself out of position, and is king at giving the puck away in the worst possible moments...

i'm not saying he won't get better as he progresses, but maybe a few games in the press box will give him some perspective.

That's RW and his desire for Dmen to learn to play both sides. They do it every so often with Dion.

Tried it with Luke and it just didn't work.

They have Dion, Luke, Franson, Blacker, Komisarek, who all prefer right. And then Liles, Gardiner, Gunnar, Aulie, Holzer who all prefer left.

Move Army in a package with Schenn and Colburne for someone that can play. I like Farttin as well. When he puts it together at the NHL level, he will be a good one..A keeper if you will.

But have the Leafs really been prevented from making a move due to cap space?

I doubt it.

If the Leafs were granted an extra $5 million in cap space last summer, would Burke have really made any different or additional moves?

This team doesn't lack cap space.

It lacks talent, and the ability to acquire that talent.

On the contrary, if the buyout is in full to remove the guy from the cap the PA will like it. The guy gets his full money AND he is a FA and ca n go earn more.

... it really all depends on what gets negotiated.

My vote would be to make the GM's who purposely circumvented the cap live with their mistakes.

at this point...i'd rather have komi in down the stretch...

he's more reliable defensively (at least this year) than schenn.

rely? why in hell wouldnt they like it. if your a team who has jeff carter u buy him out, the player still gets all his money, it dosent count agasit that teams cap, then that player can go and sighn with a new team for more money. like the nba

example carter is owed 50 mill next 10 years a free buyout like the nba is the player gets the full amount not 2/3rds of it and the team gets the 5 mill off their cap, team would be jackets, then carter becomes ufa, lets say he sighns with kings for 4 years at 16 million, thats an extra 16 million carter would have never got. you can do that with loungo in vancouver and so many other players. works for both sides like nba.

\
Colborne is the ONLY prospect the Leafs have in the system who looks like he may actually be an NHL center one day (McKegg still in Jr, and splits time on the Wing).

They should not be trading Colborne unless he is demanded in a trade for somebody HUGE.
